For some reason the last post has been locked before I could reply.
Anyway. Was a chap on the "bike chat forums" called Sir Black Pig. Link here:
http://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=3043551 . Reading through, it looks as though he's not the only one to have this happen. Sift through the trolling posts.. It's a bit of a shite forum for that. I got the blurb from another forum.
My car insurance was with them, and to be honest I was glad to find somewhere cheaper. When it comes down to me to inform them that their scare-tactics to keep me with them are wrong, (and something the ombudsman would like to hear about) they finally released my NCB to be passed on to my new insurer.
Anyway. Since the original post was only posted yesterday, I'm sure the full fact's will come to light soon enough, and I dare say the media will catch wind of it. They love a good lynching.
Peace

I appreciate the post - but am also aware of the fall out of such things
I guess that only hearing one side of a story makes it hard - hence tim's concern
i have been insured with hastings direct in the past - with no issues - but i never had a claim so....
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Over the years I've been with many insurance companies, some good, some bad and some ugly. In my experience the cheaper ones seem to be the worst, but that isn't always the case. The worst one for me was Tesco, followed closely by a firm called CIA. Tesco cancelled my insurance without so much as a letter to say why, and to this day I don't know why they did it. CIA would wait until the last possible opportunity to send me out my insurance certificate that I'd paid for. Turns out they had a habit of taking peoples money, but not issuing certs until they really had to.. thus dodging the underwriters fees.. I know this as a friend of mine used to work for them.. As for Hastings, I'm glad I got out of there when I did as they showed their true colours when I moved my business elsewhere.

Don't normally respond to this type of thread but felt I had too this time. there are always bad news stories about every and any organisiation large or small ( believe my I should know working in financial services). Those of you that were around on here a few years ago will remember I had my garage broken into and my first Falco stolen along woth a load of gear.
My insurers were.... you guessed it....Hastings. they were superb. I had to undergo the usual telephone interview (stress detection technology). The loss adjuster was an ex police class one biker. I provided photos etc and even though the bike was just outside the terms and conditions that allowed them to slip out of the "replace with new" clause they gave me £1500 more than trade value which enable my to secure one the fewnew ones left in the country, and they sourced it. I had a new bike deliverd within 3 weeks.
That's it, I've said my bit. They were very good to me.

I guess this all goes to show the lack of consistency and differing experiences of these big companies.
We have 3 cars insured with Tesco - mainly because nobody else can touch them on price.
Recently I had someone run into the back of me - and then fail to give me their details.
Tesco dealt with it unbelievably well. Arranged for repairs to be done, gave me a courtesy car, waived the excess as it clearly wasn't my fault and it will not affect my NCD.
Excellent service and dealt with with great efficiency and understanding. I give them a great thumbs up.

The Hastings story happened to a friend of a friend on another forum.
Personally I think the best thing to do in these circumstances is to go to one of the problem solving pages in the press - dare I say the Daily Mail seem to have some success! Or one of the TV 'rip-off' programmes. A bit of publicity usually does the trick.
Hey BG it was actually my friend Buster that it happened too.
He`s doing pretty good now,off the crutches and getting about,he lost his spleen and a kidney along with various other injuries

Wow - makes my claim seem less important by comparison. Didn't realise it was so serious. Hope he continues to make a great recovery. Didn't mean to offend or trivialise.
