PDAs

#1 Post by John1000 » Mon Mar 26, 2007 7:55 pm

Interested in getting myself a PDA but my knowledge of them is very limited . What I am after is something mobile I can use with Outlook and also carry manuals in PDF format . With PDAs can you download software onto them or does it need to be pre-installed . :smt017

most come with some preinstalled and then you add more as you need to

sit down and work out exactly what you want your PDA to do - then go looking

Mine is expensive - I have an O2 xda - that is my pda, mobile phone, spare mp3 player and sat nav system...

a little bulky but only one device.....

I've got a dell X50.
It has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
a CF and SD card slots.
I use it to listen to mp3's at work and watch movies. I also have Tomtom Navigator loaded onto it.
You just plug it into your PC and using Microsoft ActiveSync drag and drop things into your Pda documents folder in My Documents and it will load them onto your Pda. Or load stuff into your CF, SD card and load it that way.(Quicker with big files)

Ok what I will be using it for is just for customer information so I know who is calling while out of the office I thought that Microsoft’s outlook would be ok for this. Also would I be able to download Adobe onto it . Sorry if all this is obvious but only really started to think about a PDA last night . :smt006

I assume you mean a pdf viewer? as in adobe acrobat? and the answer is yes....

May I ask what your home pc is running OS wise?

reason - if you are on xp, then you will be able to get something older that does what you want for not a lot of money

also - what is your budget?

Well after much fretting over what pda to get, made a passing comment to the brother-in-law about getting one and was told he had one that was given to him and never used and so he gave it to me . :smt001
It’s a Medion mdpna100 seems to be ok only problem I have no software for it or manual.
Anyway need a address book for it and a pdf viewer but how do you download to it .
Have linked it to my pc by a cable using active-sync so do I accesses the web by the pc and save what I’m downloading to the sync folder and the next time I link the pda it will copy the info over or what.
And if you know where to get a manual that would be great. :smt008

Hi,
Find the software you want, It has to be for a Pda.
Download to your PC then run it on your PC with the Pda plugged in and it will find the Pda and install itself.
Google for usergroups for the Medion. There's bound to be a group of sad people who have nothing to do all day but chat about their Toys :smt017

ok - that model has:

Processor speed: 266MHz,
Installed RAM: 64MB,
Operating system: Microsoft Windows Mobile Pocket PC 2003,

SD/MMC Card Slot Expandable to 512MB - GET a 512 card!!
Microphone
Headphones
Infrared Interface
Touch Screen Stylus
Navigation Buttons
Programme Buttons
Pocket Microsoft Excel
Pocket Microsoft Word
Weight: 180g

I also hope that it came with a microsoft disk with outlook on it - install that on your main pc

you will also have a cd that has some utilities on it - install active sync BEFORE you connect the pda to the usb leads

exactly what software do you need? - i may have some links about :)

http://www.medion.co.uk/home/frame/top.htm

put your serial number in there under support and you should be able to access the manual

(I strongly suspect that you will have the software already installed - it is normall in the rom)

i am fairly certain that a search for Pocket PC 2003 w/Outlook 2002 at http://piratebay.org may well be exactly what you are looking for

(I may have a spare legal version kicking around, but would have to check my old software piles.... I have always used full ms office so..... the disks that have come with my PDA's have been useless to me)
