Sidestand sorted

Just fitted a Firestorm sidestand.

Thanks to Aladinsane and DavShill, fitted the leg only as Alad suggested and drilled an new hole as Dav said to do, worked a treat.

The only stress bit was the springs, really pleased with the result bike sits at a much healthier angle.

I could buy it, fit it to mine and let you know if it would have fit.

I saw some shiny adjustable length ones on a Yank site once to fit a range of Japanese sprotbikes. No idea where now though.

t6hats one aqppears to have sold whilst we were talking about it now thats a coincidence

so I think it may just be a case of searching goole for shiny big nobby thing for keep black bird going or just buying the Honda one new or the US one new

forgive my ignorance, but what sidestands fit?

is the issue with the standard side stand that it leans to far over?

No - it's too upright, the sidestand touches down too close to the centre line of the bike and it's made of cheese.

Modified Gixer stand (ask Willopotomas on here and he'll mod one for you) or a number of honda stands work.

The US market Falco stand is also an excellent option but its bracket needs modifying to fit a european bike.

I fitted a 1998 Firestorm one and it fits fine. Didnt even need to drill the extra hole that has been discussed. Only real mod I had to do was secure a bolt to ensure the sidestand didn't retreat too far when in the 'up' position. It wasn't fouling anything but it seemed to confuse the warning light as it would extinguish then illuminate once it was fully back.

For all but those who know otherwise this is what I used, a honda VTR Firestorm (not SP1 or SP2) side stand.

I used the leg only and the spring from the Honda, I tried not to drill a whole but the stand would not activate the switch, once I drilled the whole it was fine.

From putting the bike on a paddock stand to taking it off took an hour and a half.

The bike used to lean horribly and now it stands taller and the leg reaches out further away from the bike.

D-Rider can actually take the sidestand off with out a paddock stand.....

It wasn't the sidestand that I was actually trying to remove ..................

I wondered how long it would take before that one was mentioned again ....

Or the engine if you want to keep the 3 bolts. MUCH stronger
