I know a bloke that had something similar - he was handing over the money to his missus to pay the mortgage and other bills - and she wasn't paying them!
He reckoned he got off lightly just losing the house....... (and the woman of course!)

I think that when she turned up with a £4000 bill for a horse and expected me to pay it, i would have told her to get fooked. He really has not helped his situation by letting it spiral out of control
