Anyone know a good knacker's yard?

#1 Post by MartDude » Tue Sep 13, 2011 9:47 pm

Got the results of the MRI scan on my back last week. Seems my back's even more f**ked than I thought. Couple of vertebrae out of line, bony growths pressing on nerves, and 7 knackered discs. One of these, in my neck, is causing 'marked compression' of my spinal cord. The GP said this, if not dealt with quickly, could lead to the loss of use of my legs, & possibly my arms. Now waiting for an appointment with a spinal surgeon.

Also got arthritis - back, knees, feet. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome as well, & trapped nerves in my elbows. Going deaf, & starting with cataracts.

All this means riding is very uncomfortable at present; sometimes my leg won't hold my weight when getting off; my hands, wrists & forearms variously go numb, tingle, cramp up - don't feel very confident about braking sometimes. My head will barely turn 90 degrees. And no way can I move around on the bike.

The GP told me it's probably not a good idea to have long rides at present.

Having to give up my present job (joiner) - just can't do it any more.

I'm not quite sure what to do about the bike : wait & see if treatment will improve my condition, or just f**k it off quickly; I've hardly ridden it these last three months, but I'd miss it's presence on the drive.

Bloody hell that's quite a list. I've got mild versions of some of that and you definitely have my sympathy.

What he said
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

I can see the need for a p3w forum on the site before long. :smt002

:(

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Sorry to hear this Mart. Tough decisions.
I guess you are going to have to be guided by what your body is telling you - and whether medical advice is that keeping things moving by doing things in moderation is better or worse than avoiding completely.
Hope that any associated pain is bearable and you find the right way forward.

Don't part with the bike till you asre positive you won't be able to ride again - or until you think 'that's it, it's going! "

Maybe you'll be able to ride when you've had some treatment, maybe you will need a different bike, maybe you won't want that - I just think that while you're undecided is not a good time to do it. Either way, you need to make up your mind to keep or sell it cos all the time you are undecided it's just another thing to deal with - and when you're going through health problems it's really helpful to minimise other problems, it seems to give you more capacity to deal with the other things.

Oh and if you do sell, stick around with RS cos we'd miss you!

powered 3 wheeler

Yeah I reckon this achy painy thing catches us all. Ive had fekked back n stuff for over a decade now and it's ever incresingly getting worse. falling down the mess stairs the other week has made everything a whole lot worse though, so i fully understand where youre coming from Mart!

Trike it, lower it.. fit a well stocked minibar on the back (medicinal use only) and I reckon you'd be sorted.

Bollocks to it. I'm visiting a customer in the morning on the bike; not much choice, as the car's in dry dock, and it'll be more fun. If I can't manage a 30-mile ride, I may as well put my head in the oven now (but as we've no gas in Cleobury, that would be rather a Norfolk thing to do).

Sorry to winge; been feeling a bit dissatisfied with my lot these last few days; I've known for a while this was on the cards, but I didn't expect it to come for at least another 10 or so years.

I'm grateful for your support; it means a lot to me. Thanks

That's nothing to do with the trike!
