Bloody Digital TV Switchover on Emley Moor Grrrrrrrrr

Has anybody got a clue about whats goin on with the digital switchover??

Ist you just needed a Freeview box and all would be fine on the switchover.
Then you needed a Freeview box and a retune on the day the new signals went live, (OK makes sense as the signals have changed).

Then the switchover became a two day thing, in my case on Emley Moor we got a message, this was to retune on the 7th of September and again on 21st or you will lose channels, WHAT??
Why twice?
and if you do lose them, do they never come back??
Why ??????

Anyway so I was a good little boy and retuned tonight, about 10 times so far.
When I do an autotune, it brings in all channels and they work OK, switch the "Source" "back from digital to analogue and back again, still OK.
BUT if I turn the telly off and back on again I lose BBC 1, 2 and 3 all the ones on 52, BBC 4 is OK on 46. (P.S also lose BBC News).
NO way can I get a signal back on these.
Then again, it is not actually a signal issue, because if I autotune again they come back, switch off and gone again. I have repeated this about ten times now with the same result, all tune in and stay on until you turn the telly off.
So it works fine if I do a 10 minute autotune every time I want to use it, or alternatively never switch the telly off.

So I then tried the Freeview telly in Joanne's bedroom before 12pm and it was OK.
Tried it again after 12pm and BBC 1, 2 and 3 were already gone, without retuning anything.
I retuned this set after midnight and got them back, but in this case they stayed OK after switching off.
So on the telly I actually retuned as instructed on the 7th I can't keep the channels. The other telly that I did not do until after midnight, when they had already gone, retuning on the 8th brought them back permanently.
I have tried to retune the original telly again after midnight and makes no difference, switching off still loses BBC Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Anybody else retuned on Emley Moor today as instructed?

I reckon they didn't know you had electric way up there, so didn't expect any complaints

Your not going to believe this Howard but.......................my switchover went perfectly. I actually have an electrically powered piece of kit that didn't give me any issues

Of course I forgot to re-tune the damn thing and wondered why BBC had disappeared but a quick re-tune later and all is well. We have sky for the tele's downstairs so no issues there of course but the bedroom televison is now fine.

I'm sure a well respected Fut owner may be along soon to try and assist as he works at Emley Moor

try a firmware upgrade on the device and making sure that the power is completely off to both devices no trckle charge ... oh wait you are in the wilds and have no signal and the water wheel is buggered too you say

Sorry Howard, we point to Crosspool and our switchover was a piece of cake. Probably depends on the Freeview box you've got, I reckon.

Hopefully, Howard, the problems won't be as terminal as was the case with Emley Moor in 1969, when the mast collapsed under the weight of ice; our TV picture was suddenly replaced by a snowstorm (lived in Dewsbury then); can't remember how long it took to restore a service. The remains of the mast, and the damage to the roof of the nearby chapel - roof cheesewired by a flailing steel support cable - were a local tourist attraction for months afterwards

We too had our first stage of the switchover yesterday and will get the second stage on 21st.
In fact yesterday was the first day we've officially received digital (although most local post codes were OK before, ours was one that was not).

It caused me a few headaches too.
I think this is because the stuff they have now fired up is broadcast at a much higher power than it was and that is swamping the inputs of some of the freeview receivers (probably older ones are worse).

I have a number of TVs around the house that I feed from a distribution amp and I also had another amp to boost the signal.
After the switchover I couldn't find most of the BBC channels on some of the receivers (despite new channel scans)
It took quite a bit of reconfiguring and changing where I have amplifiers in the system in order to get things OK on all the TVs.

I expect when the changeover is complete on 21st, things will be more balanced and I'll be able to configure things well after that.

I also expect that some people who have fitted high gain aerials to cope with the hitherto low power digital signals might be suffering now they've cranked the power up.

Looks like I need to respond to you first Dale.
I gather that all Aussie TV sets run off methane power outside main towns or in the outback, this is generally available straight from the asshole of the "real Ausie" blokes after any normal drinking session.
I hear that just one of these super assholes can power all the TVs in a small town after an average to good session on the ale.
Sadly Dale I reckon you may not be fully assimilated yet and still tend to think like most Brits that a good session on the ale is just something to be enjoyed.
The the exhaust gas element is simply something to laugh about with your mates, (volume, smell comparisons, possible playing tunes or flame throwing after a real good session), or something to piss the wife/girlfriend off in bed that night when you push her head under the sheets to sample it properly.
Our lot are obviously much more cultured, and also just use leccy tellys.

Got Sky Plus with the main telly in the living room.
It's just that us afluent nothern folk sometimes have other tellys in other rooms, two in our case both with onboard Freeview!

being a cheapskate, I upgraded to sky HD and got them to install multi room for me - I cancelled the multi room after the first month so I could get the free to air sky channels in one room

when the engineer arrived to do the work, 50 quid changed hands and a couple of rooms had sky cables ran to them from the LNB.... end of problem

Mart - sadly I do cleary remember the Elmey Moor collapse in 1969!
(sadly (?) I had been biking for about 5 years at that time)

Andy - that sounds similar to me, I have three sets with a new high gain digital aerial. Normal signal strength was about 48 to 50% before and still is on all the stations I can still get on Freeview.
BBC1 2 and 3 come in at 78% or a bit higher when I first tune them in.
After I switch off and back on again, they just say no signal on the 52 channel which these three now share. Will have another go tonight, maybe with the amp switched off.
