A lot of the problem stems from the app approval process. Iphone and Blackberry have a far stricter regime for apps than Google does with Android. You have to crack both operating systems to run 3rd party non-approved apps, with Android however a simple check box allows you to do wtf you want. There are a couple of good antiviruses there (AVG ferinstance and Mcaffee) that help combat it.
Another problem is the fact Android phones are cheaper and therefore more readily available to younger kids who like installing the crappier free games which harbour the malware.. not knowing what exactly theyre doing. at least cracking BB5, 6 and now 7 and iOS takes more knowledge.. and hopefully more understanding.. to do it.. (Ive got BB and Android phones)
