Bodge Shock

#1 Post by flatlander » Sat Aug 20, 2011 8:51 pm

so I have acquired 1
"rear shock for 2002 Falco polished and only done 3500 miles"
Via a different avenue I have acquired a yellow spring which I believe is from a 99 mille

any issues if I mate them to make one complete baby? :smt002

In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

It's not the spring itself that is the problem .... it's the shock internals.

A Blue spring on a Mille shock might be fine for the right weight of rider but you won't get an improvement with a mille spring on a Falco shock

edit

sorry _ i misread the post

as andy said - changing the spring will not do a great deal - if anything

the original sachs unit is poor - in that it has limited adjustment of any note

http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/show ... p?t=162440 has the basic information of what will fit on the falco, from other aprilia bikes

IT IS NOT DEFINITIVE!

some have gone a different way with changing shocks, springs but not linkages and so on - but that list is a good start

for my money, for the average rider, a refurbished and correctly set up white spring mille shock is the most cost effective option - more than that is nice but... for under 150 quid all in you cannot go far wrong imho

Having said that

https://www.ridersite.com/viewtopic.php?t=8578

Sachs rear shock £65
Rear suspension linkages £40

has to be a bargain and i would be peeling notes off to tash....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

As it happens

I have a White shock ready to go on
I am just thinking of selling the hodge shock or keeping it for a spare. And yes I am watching / bidding on that one 

Assuming I fit the White one any recommendations on where a good place for an economical refurb might be found ?

I think there is revs racing that some here have used - another place in Scotland as well...

The ohlins will go for north of 150 IMHO....

If tash's shock is Good and needs no service, then I would buy that for that price - then sell on the white springer

Ride it

Simple answer - and that shock is now 10 years old so I would say it is due a refurb or service...

The ohlins I have on mine rides fine - but this winter I will get it serviced and resprung....

If it looks ok, and rides ok - it is ok - but factor in a service when you can
