Overflow / leak v2

I had a message from from James the chap who bought the black one

noticed a small leak coming from the petrol breather pipe. Didn't think anything of it until the next day when petrol was still dripping from the tank. We lifted the tank and saw petrol seeping from the seal around the fuel filter. .... there was a temporary repair in place...... is this a regular thing because of the plastic tank on the falco? and is there a fix or does this sound like a one off thing?

I am hoping we may be able to give him some pointers as I have no idea and want him to know I also had no idea about this and that genuinely want to help.

this can happen commonly

solution is a little involved but

the gasket sits in a lip - and the gasket may have perished - you can get a new one from a stealer - though the delivery time may be naughty....

BUT

if the gasket is intact, then heres what I did

find a petrol resistant instant gasket - this will take some finding... I think there is one made by loctite that is red....

remove the fuel pump and clean out the holding lug for the gasket - DO NOT use a scalpel or other sharp object... shaped soft wood or similar.....

clean off the face of the fuel pump

offer up the sealant into the lug and place the gasket in

tighten up the bolts in a circular manner - don't go crazy - I think the torque settings are 8nm - but please check!

allow the gasket to prove and then refit the atank etc

oh - clean out the drain holes for the over flows whil the tank is off....

funnily enoguh just had a reply from him

Cheers for this - that is pretty much exactly how the mechanic has bodged it - we used a petrol resistant gasket sealant which seems to be holding at the moment - but if it doesnt we hae some black silicone which should do the job. Like i said though, looks like there was an attempted repair before, but the o-ring seal looked fine. May just be the plastic tank and sunlight warping it!
