Help - Front subframe needed
Hi all,
The front fairing frame/instrument mount has sheared at thepoint where it bolts to the headstock.
I looked up the replacement cost - good job I was sitting down....
So anyone got a spare they'd like to sell?
Pretty Please
Cheers

if you prep the joint to be welded V prep with a grinder and mig weld it you can sand it up with a flap wheel back to a flush finish and paint it. you will not be able to tell it has been welded, this is a steel part of the frame?Taqman wrote:What bracing did you add? - as welding may be my only option tooFalcoholic wrote:Wasn't me.
But I did have mine welded up and had some bracing pieces put in.

Mine appears to be powder coated ally of some sort - way to light to be steelblinkey501 wrote:if you prep the joint to be welded V prep with a grinder and mig weld it you can sand it up with a flap wheel back to a flush finish and paint it. you will not be able to tell it has been welded, this is a steel part of the frame?Taqman wrote:What bracing did you add? - as welding may be my only option tooFalcoholic wrote:Wasn't me.

Yep they are Ally, they are hard to repair, they seldom come up second hand (probably as people keep breaking them) and normally cost a lot when they do.
I think if someone were to make some up in steel, they would have a steady demand for them - not enough to make their fortune but a regular trickle.

I am a plater/ welder by trade, and the only other suggestion is to take your broken bits to a local fabrication shop and ask them to prep and(tig) weld it for you, ask them to flush the welds off with a flap wheel for you ready to paint. if your bits are tube ask them if they can re-inforce the joint by putting a piece of solid aluminium bar inside the tube. i dont know what they will charge but it will be easier than trying to find and new bracket

Tolerance will be our undoing.

Nah that's the main chassis frame - the bit I need bolts onto the front of the headstock and holds the clocks, front fairing and mirror mounts.furygan man wrote:not sure exactly what part you're talking about? Is it this part?

For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
