Allegedly !
The Ultimate Islay Single Malt
10 yr old Ardbeg on opening the bottle tastes like cough mixture filtered through compost.
Having aquired a taste for it by the time the bottle is emptied it tastes like

cough mixture filtered through deer dung.
I remember a similar experience about 40 yrs ago. That was Underberg, an 85% proof hangover cure.
Come back Jack! :smt003

The only whisky that I really like is Talisker, which is very very nice. And I tired some Thai whisky (in Thailand oddly enough) and that wasn't too bad at all. All the others I've tried have tasted vile, American bourbon being the worst!

Please tell me that you didn't try Ardbeg 10yo as your first whisky. You don't say you did so apologies if I'm barking up the wrong tree but I'd hate you to be put off our wonderful spirit because of that. It's a bit like bikes, really. If you'd never ridden one, and someone gave you their Kawasaki H2 750 to try, it would probably scare you off for ever... or kill you!

Heathen!!

Ardbeg is not for beginners.

Highland and Speyside Malts are better for developing your palette.
Smoother and not as peaty as the Island malts.

Try a Macallan with a few drops of water. Lovely

I love my Malts I do :smt003

I rate most of the Islays but this stuff is peaty beyond belief, and beyond palatability. Have you tried it Dusty?

I swear by the bruichladdich malts, I found Bowmore was too commercial in it's offerings (quantity not quality)
Have tried the others but settled on a 18yo Bruichladdich as my malt of choice.
Interesting about Port Charlotte. I was there when they were bringing it back to life, with Bruichladdich I believe, gutted it hasnt survived to come alive again proper.

Youre meant to add a drop of water.. not drink it neat! (got the lecture at the distillery)

I must admit I do like a good single malt, but it doesn't seem to like me. First of all I get heartburn very easily with it, then comes a raging hangover after quite modest quantities.

I think someone is trying to tell me something...

And this is from someone with a Scottish Christian name, middle name and Surname...

Ha. I use my Mango-based invisibility cloak to hide the fact that I have a Jockistani name... :smt003

Patel?

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
