Gold sachs, ? linkage.

#1 Post by maz » Thu May 05, 2011 2:03 pm

Hi, I have a couple of questions. New to the falco (2000plate) but really enjoying it. Just bought a 2003 mille gold sachs shock, I have read that I need the corresponding mille link and dogbone, but also some riders appear to have used the falco link with no problems and have been happy with the set up?.
Now the gold sachs has apparently only covered about 7000mile so I was going to try it first before thinking of a re-build.
I weigh about 12stone and find the standard shock a bit harsh although I have softened it a bit which has improved it, I definitely thought it was better when I has the wife on the back, but then I was riding very steady.
Sorry rambling on a bit :smt015.
Ideally I wanted to have the forks serviced at the same time as fitting the shock. Some comments have high praise for aprilia performance at Tamworth which is a possibility but I also could use the aprilia dealer in Exeter, anybody use/recommend them?

Use griff at aprilia performance - end of

http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/show ... p?t=162440 details the shock info - and from that you will be able to see what linkages you require - once you have them identified I would contact breakers to get them

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

For the warm fuzzy feeling of knowing you've let your steed be sorted by someone oft regarded as the UK's foremost Aprilia guru, i'd take it to Griff. He has a hardcore following, built on his background and reputation.

Hello and welcome!! :smt006

Although i've only been on here a year my opinion is some Aprilia dealers are better than others...then there's the high rate they charge. As you will have picked up on, Griff is highly regarded on here, i've been over there myself 3 times and had excellent service...but then he is only 1/2 hour down the road

Be worth emailing/calling him as he does vist the SW a few times a year to service a mates bike down there, checkout their forum as sometimes they post up location visits but the SW is prob more of a personal thing...he's very approachable. It's an advantage if it's a red one as that's his favourite Falco colour ...but don't tell the others! Cornish Mafia is down there too and almost arranged something, maybe worth getting together with some other SW Falco peeps for a 'group' visit?

Others will be along to discuss the Shock issue as i don't know what i'm doing in that department so went with the linckages as well!

...anyway will stop waffling...enjoy the bike, nice neck of the woods to be :smt004

Hi and Welcome.

Unless the shock has been re-sprung/re-valved to suit the Falco linkages, it needs the pre '04 Mille linkages (not the earliest Mille linkages that went with the white spring shock as they are the same as the Falco linkages).

Griff does come down to Bodmin sometimes MAZ and is a great bloke to chat with cause just like the forum gods on here his knowledge is endless on Aprilias !! I've tried a couple of times to meet up but had to let him down last time due to work commitments but i think he said he would be heading down our way again and it could be around this time ........

Give him a shout and he'll soon let you know ..... :smt001

And last but by no means least welcome to the site and the Falco and please let me be the first to say "HIDE YOUR WALLET MATE CAUSE THIS LOT WILL HELP YOU SPEND SPEND SPEND" .. :smt005
