Rear grab rail removal?

#1 Post by danowat » Sat Mar 17, 2007 10:11 am

Anyone done it?, what does it look like afterwards?, does it leave any unsightly areas?.

The reasoning behind it is, the only pillion I ever take is my partner, she doesn't like holding the grab rails so we have a "pillion pal" belt I wear, now, I think the grab rails spoil the back of the Falco a bit, and therefore wouldn't mind getting rid of em.

Any suggestions?.

Dan,

You'll end up with a scolloped bit over the rear light and a gap where the rear of the seat sits. It doesn't look good with the pillion hump fitted, like there's definitely a bit missing, but you may get away with it using the seat.

I've tried that and can confirm all above.

Another thing to consider is that the grab rail comes in very handy when putting the bike on/off a paddock stand :smt006

I don't know what the Falco looks like without a grab rail, but I've seen 2 or 3 other bikes with them removed and it looks awful imo.

IIRC Pikfee did a fill in jobbie that made it all look good. Now that he seems to be contactable again he might be worth a shout.

IMHO it does look awful, I tried it and also considered one of Peters (Pifkee) fillers but which ever way I looked at it,it didn't work (well not for me)

As always it's down to personal taste, some may love it. It only takes 2 minutes to remove and have a look for yourselves anyway

I'm hoping to persuade the missus to get on the back at some point, she'd not like the lack of grabs :smt005
