SPAMALOT ...... Guess the number - THE RESULTS

#1 Post by D-Rider » Fri Apr 08, 2011 7:16 pm

Image

Recently Kwackerz has mentioned that we get a fair few spammers trying to join Ridersite.
As has also been mentioned, Pete and I have had our Moderator powers "enhanced" and we've been able to see whether these spammers really exist or whether Tim is just a big old whinge-bag (OK, so maybe not a big old whinge-bag but a small one who whinges a lot).

So I thought I'd run a quick Poll to see what the ordinary man or woman on a bike/trike estimates to be the scale things.

I got my first email letting me know that someone had requested to join at 17:00 on 2nd April. Your job is to guess how many emails will have come in by the same time on 9th April.
Thinking about how many new forum users have introduced themselves in that time may or may not be a help

Click the Link: SPAMALOT

Results will be announced when I get round to it

I think the number will horrify folk....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Know all about spam bots from my classic bike forum admin days.. It got so bad once the servers couldn't cope n' the lot crashed. Recovered most, but lost a hell of a lot.. Even after daily back ups. This would've been between 2003 and 2007 (ish), so can only imagine it's got worse. Really wouldn't like to put a number on it, but the average IIRC from the classic forum was around 30-40 bots per day. :smt068

..... Measuring time period is almost up ..... the guessing game may go on a while longer (just to let everyone have a guess).

I've put up the quiz, maybe Pete can sort out the prize - perhaps a DIY enema or something?

I think you may have failed to grasp the porpoise of a prize.
It's meant to encourage entries. :smt002
