Noise!

#1 Post by szrdave » Tue Apr 05, 2011 9:50 pm

Any idea how falcos normally fare when confronted with a noise-o-meter?

I'm tempted by the new Snetterton 300 circuit on the 26th, but the noise limit is 105db and the bike has straight through pipes on.

My Yamaha (660 single, loud pipe) is just under 102db, my mates nc30 with a similar can is over 105db so I'd be interested to hear peoples experiences...

I'll have a fiver on it not getting on track. A renegade can with failing packing on an RSV will fail, Im positive a straight thru set of pipes stands no chance.

Depends on what revs they check it on...

At tick over mine is not too bad.... Get to 5000 revs and that's different!

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

It's usually where the dip in the power curve normally sits. Cant remember the revs but I got a lecture on it once...

According to a post elsewhere it may go beyond a static test now. :smt017
Now they have a DB tester on the home straight somewhere and if this picks you up you are black flagged, if you are then found to have been tested at say 100db then got back to your garage then removed the baffle you are black flaged then sent home. When you are being noise tested i noticed y,day that the guy puts a little tick at the end of the end can think this was if some1 had a baffle in he then put a small mark with a marker pen?? (could always be wiped off with petrol) At lunch time all got called to the pitlane few smacked wrists for this and that BUT biggest thing was the problem with noise if after lunch it picked loud bikes up again MSV would stop the day, some heated comments followed lol fu-k you fu-k this etc etc etc lol At the end of the day its not MSV or No Limits its the council who have set this rule. At Oulton now DB has dropped to 102db, a safe bet now is a standard can.
Tis was talking about snetti btw.

as an aside..
Tip; get a bunch of coins and jam them in between the loops of the spring before you take it off -- that way you won't have to stretch it to get it back on again. If the springs on your main or side stand are loose and floppy you'll have to fix the stand in the raised position with lock wire or tie wraps.

What a top tip!!! Should work for exhaust springs too, with washers...

Agreed, top tip!

I'm doing this the next time I take the zorsts off, though being Scottish I'm not sure I'd be happy using real money. I'll need to check my foreign coin collection.

Though a set of these from Aldi makes exhaust spring removal a breeze (the one at the top of the set is most useful)
I think the set cost about a couple of quid

Hi, I've got Scorpion race cans on which sounds loud to me. I did Silverstone last year and had no problems. They said they were going to be strict.

Take one of those cheap clothes hangers with the plastic 'arms' and metal hook, cut the arms off about 50mm from the hook and you've got the perfect spring puller!

Noeli0 - I just downloaded one of those apps for my HTC, I'll give it a try and see what it comes up with.

What rpm do they test 1L twins at? I guess around 7k?
