throttle body balancing

#1 Post by Dalemac » Sat Mar 19, 2011 2:59 am

Hey guys,

i bought a carbtune pro(4 cylinder jobby) ages ago, but never got round to balancing the throttle bodies. I have done the carbs on the gpz a hundred times before, but dont have a clue how to do throttle bodies. Can anyone write up a short guide on what to do/how for me please?

Thanks,

Dale

err - why do you need a guide - it's really easy. Just read the workshop manual on balancing the TBs and the info that comes with the carbtune and get on with it ....

Do it exactly the same way as with the GPZ. some suggest that the front pot be set a smidge stronger. AF1 has many threads on this.

Is the bike supposed to sound normal when balancing? i followed the guide above, but i think it is running on just the one cylinder!

Suggestions?

Check the condition of the plugs on the front and rear, see if theyre excessively different?

Remove one plug lead from the front and see if it changes the running, then do the same for the rear, so in the end youve done it with all plug leads? Should show whether one of them is dodgy or not. Obviously one plug lead at a time... not all in the same go..

Just dont shock yourself in the process..

Thanks for the suggestion. Just got back from halfords - cant deal with those stupid latching clips. (whatever they are called).

Will go back down and check everything it right.

Thanks,

I had stupidly unplugged a connector, hence the ctlinder wasnt getting the electricity it needed!.

Started to balance, the front cylinder is pullign 26 cm /hg and the second is pulling 32 cm/hg. front screw was 2.5 turns out and the rear was only 1 turn out!

going to correct this now i think!

Beat me to it. When I did mine I unplugged the injector connection ao I wouldn't bugger it up getting the slipper clutch tube off and forgot to reconnect.

Sorry, I should have warned you, but I thought only I could be that stupid.

Must be a case of Dale-Mac-itis given that both Dale Macs have done the same thing ......

yep, its perfectly in the way which is why i unplugged it!

I took quite a while to balance them. The best setup i could find was front 2.25 turns out and the rear 1.75 turns out. It now rides much smoother, and is a bit nicer on the power. have lost some of the engine braking effect though :(

Did you bugger about with the trimpots on the ECU?

Mine made sod all difference, so they aren't activated with my chip, roll on payday so I can get Gabro one.

Just had a look at my post and I had 1.75 front and 2.25 back, although that was from memory and I am very stupid.

Nope, didnt touch the ecu, just the throttle bodies.

Why?

If your chip activates the trim pots you can get a better fuelling.

Have search on the AF1 site.

Here's a short and sweet how to.
