Anyone know about Fleabay and the Channel Isles?

#1 Post by ligloo » Thu Mar 17, 2011 11:25 pm

As mentioned previously, bought an incubator from fleabay. It's been ages in arriving and got a letter today from Parcelforce saying that it's in its Perth (Scottish) depot but we can't have it until we pay an additional £40 vat as it came from Guernsey . Not happening!

This incubator was originally bought from the UK and vat already (was, I assume, paid on it). Anyone any idea what the next move is? The sellers are away for a week but if they refuse to pay the additional costs then it's not worth the '2nd hand factor', I'd rather pay the extra and get a brand new one......

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handle bars to the saddle.

From a business seller or private?

Channel Island VAT treatment is not as UK or EU, but as Rest of the World.
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

.. so VAT wouldnt have been paid on an export to the Island from UK?

But could be liable to import duty on import to UK..

all I know if I was buying new, it would be from the same company this was purchased from (in the UK), they inc VAT in their price..... the reason I assume it was paid is that they paid the same price as we would for it when it was brand new?

Yep - same risk as buying from Hong Kong, USA and many other places.

If the seller claimed the goods were based in the UK in their listing, then I think you should be able to start a dispute - but with the seller- not with the inland revenue.

shit Kwack, that says it all....ermmm thanks for that lol

However, what I don't get is the over 400+ feedback, mostly shipped to the UK and no-one has ever mentioned the VAT. grrrr, I'm still not paying it!

ermm are we part of the EU or not, never have figured it out? :smt020

They sort of are, but aren't at the same time. They have their own governing system known as the States or Jersey, Guernsey etc.. Known as UK Crown Dependencies.

Quote BBC
The islands are not part of the United Kingdom or European Union, but rather are possessions of the British Crown with independent administrations. Their inhabitants are British citizens.
