A productive Saturday...

Ohlins shock fitted:

Image

Linkages cleaned and greased, having owned a number of Yamaha's it was a nice surprise to find Aprilia had seen fit to add some grease from the factory so all bearings are in good nick:

Chain cleaned and lubed:

I also had a pair of tyres fitted, D211GP on the front and SportSmart on the rear which I'm hoping will give a good combination of all weather road grip and mileage with decent track grip and the ability to stand a few heat cycles without 'going off'.

A nice surprise while doing a few other bits and pieces is the rebuild-able gear linkage, no missed shifts on the way home after a clean and lube.

Looking forward to riding some decent roads on the way back to Ipswich next weekend, fingers crossed for sunshine!

Good fettling :smt003

Was that Ohlins off a very early mille? - the reason I ask is that the linkages look like Falco linkages (though I can't be certain from the angle of the photo).

I would have loved to have been out on the Falco today, but I've spent so much money on it this month I've got to ration fuel fill-ups until pay day :smt009

Well the seller said it was, then I read your post which got me thinking...better check the numbers to be sure.

Looks like it's a 2001-2003 according to the AF1 shock thread. Arse!

I'm swapping my standard shock for this one, with a bit of cash his way. With any luck he'll have the correct linkage and we can swap those too.

The number on the spring is 1091-31/95, could someone with an Ohlins check the number on theirs and let me know what linkage they're using with it?

I bought mine as a 2002 MilleR Ohlins, and it's marked like that (1091-31/95).

But next month you'll have shiny bits AND petrol. I'll have petrol and a bike with nearly no shiny bits.

It's all about priorities, food on the table and petrol in the bike or nice shiny bits....

...after maiming mine within a month of buying it, I eyeball tricked-out Falco's for sale on a regular basis. I just don't have the patience or mechanical aptitude to cheaply 'restore' the tatty blue bird :smt011 . I'd still get another one - have never seen anything with the same pedigree or character. :smt007

Well the correct linkage arrived this afternoon and I've got a few hundred miles to do this weekend, so in it had to go...

A bit of a Heath Robinson affair with bits of wood, my metal tool box and a couple of ratched straps. Luckily it wasn't raining too heavily:

The right and wrong linkages:

A quick ride to the shops to post my old shock and linkage off, and wow what a difference!

Looking forward to some country roads in the sunshine tomorrow now :smt003

I still have a standard stand, which is missing the lever!

Tbh it's not high up my list of things to change, and I've got a mate who works at a Honda dealership keeping an eye out for a 'blade stand.
