#1 Post by Myrkk » Tue Mar 13, 2007 11:32 pm

Bugger!!!!!

Just when we were set on our relocation to NZ we went up to Edinburgh to see the rugby at the weekend. Now we have to decide between family [in Scotland] and New Zealand.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh

Think of what you can offer the family though! Holidays in NZ for the price of a flight there, meaning a chance to see things that many wouldnt be able to see.

Family is only a webcam or video away and internet phonecalls are ever cheaper. :smt001

lovely thought 'Kwackz but the family causing the problem are now too ill to travel and so it would mean never [probably] seeing them alive again....... which was spelt out to my other half this w/e.

Been there, done that :smt003

I'd go back tommorrow if my job packed in.
BUT, the wife wouldn't. Her mum's getting on, etc, etc. We'd have to take her with us :smt103
Where were/are you headed?
I chat to my brother in Sydney and my parents in Christchurch most days using MSN Messenger so you're not too isolated from family.

I have family in keri keri, and was offered jobs out there when we visited a couple of years ago - but, very hard decision

I suspect that when we are older we may regret not having gone.....

We'd prefer Christchurch but would go Wellington. I quite like the fact that the north island is a more temperate climate.

Funnily enough I found a job in Keri Keri. They were looking for bee-keepers which was on the skill shortage list...... But it would have meant a long commute for t'other half and that is part of the reason we are doing this...... to end up with a shorter commute!

Wellington :smt104
You don't wanna go to the North Island, it's full of North Islanders :smt064
Christchurch is better. Nice run over to the West Coast through Arthurs Pass, up to Greymouth and back over the Lewis Pass stopping off in Hanmer Springs to soak in the Thermal pools. Aaahhhh Bliss :smt023

Myrkk, why would it mean never seeing them again? You can come back for a visit. Dunno if it's still the same but it used to be a lot cheaper to buty a ticket out there to visit here, than the other way round.

Unless they're not likely to be around very long, in which case if it matters that much, you put the plans on hold for a while.

But how often does your other half see this person anyway? If it's only just come up - after all you've been talking about this move for ages! How much difference is it going to make?

BG, we see them every 3weeks at the moment and they come up to stay for a week every so often. They don't know about NZ yet, we've only told one person....

Currently to come back from NZ it is around $3000 a lot of dosh given that NZ wages are less than UK wages and the cost of living is only marginally less.

Re. life expentancy......... they are very ill and in and out of hospital but have been so for several years now....... they could pop off at any time or live for another 10........
