Go for the conti road attacks - I rate them and they have returned high miles safely for me

I got 6k out of my first rear boot - th second one got ragged hard but 4k and still legal
(though I do plan on replacing the Tyres next month for road attack 2's)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Tyre choices are of course a constant source of debate and discussion. The reason for this is that we all ride differently and want different things from our tyres.

My own opinion with regards to the Maxxis (for what it's worth) is they are probably a decent pair of tyes provided you don't push them too hard. They don't make any claims about being sporty and I'm sure they will be a reasonably good all round tyre that should offer good mileage. The Maxxis supersport tyres recieved a good write up from Guy Martin when he tested them he reported plently of grip but lots of wear as the trade off.

With regard to expected mileage every rider is sooooooooooooo different that I honestly wonder about some of claims made by different riders and bikes.

On the Falco & The Tuono I've never got more than 3k from a rear, in the main about 2.5k before changing them. This mainly on Michelin Pilot Power 2 and Pirelli Diablos. I do like to ride quickly and I use all the tyre but I'm no Valentino Rossi, I do like to get on the throttle reasonably hard when & where I can. On the GS I reckon I'll get about 4k from the Bridgestone BT21 and about 6k from the Michelin Anakee's

However many will be along soon to say thay have done 5-6k on similar tyres. Obvioulsy we all ride differently of course. One guy on the GS forum claims to get 10-12k from a rear tyre!!!! How the bl**dy hell do you manage that? Does he push the bike around? :smt005

If the budget is tight and you don't ask too much of them I reckon they look reasonable but have a look for some independant reviews before buying. (I couldn't find any) As Falco owners we all remember how bad the OE Metzeler ME's were and you'd have thought Metzeler wouldn't make a bad tyre

Contis are a decent tyre that loads of people rate, however £180 from £124 is a big jump. I tend buy my tyres on eBay these days and have never paid more than £150 for a pair of tyres. My latest Diablos were £110 and I have a pair of new Anakee 2's for the GS that were £150.

I don't need to have to have the latest rubber though as I'll never reach the limits some of these tyres are capable of.

I can second Pete's recommendation for Conti Road Attacks. I used them on my GSXR and Falco and found them to be a great compromise. Fast road riding, confidence in the wet and Cadwell track days on the fast group. My son has used Maxxis tyres and they have been very good but he's not a sports bike rider.

I think my mate uses Maxxis on his new R1 and is happy with them.

A smooth throttle hand will make your tyres last, Debz gets about 12,000 miles to a rear commuting on her Fazer (Avon Storms), just as well at 140 miles a day! She does get 6000 on the Tuono though (Corsa III), again through being smooth and generally keeping it under 90 (most of the time). I generally get 4000-5000 on the Falco (Mez6/Corsa III), but I tend to open it up a bit more than she does coming out of corners.

I would go for the conti-road attacks, have them on the old daytona 1000 and they cope with its bulky weight pretty well

Tyres

#10 Post by moggyvan » Wed Mar 09, 2011 3:00 pm

I'm using a pair of Maxxis Supermaxx Sports (DK Online- very quick delivery) on my Gilera Nordwest and they are easily the best tyres i've ever used in terms of grip, steering and feedback. This includes Avon Viper Supersports/Sports, Pirrellis and Metzler Sportecs. It's a pretty light bike though in comparison to the Falco so i'm not too sure of their longevity!
Either way i'd like to try a pair on the Falco........ :smt001

I have used the conti road attacks and the Maxxis touring tyres.on aZZR 1100 D model. Both have been good in the dry but the the road attacks in the wet gave very poor grip.

The maxxis however I could not fault in the dry and were superb in the wet.

Interesting, my road attacks are easily the best tyre I've used in the wet. Never had Maxxis though.

Oh and welcome. Looks like we've got our own superhero on the forum

well i went for the maxxis for £130 inludind delivery ,i also have to get them fitted and balanced dont know how much this will cost but i recon £20 notes a tyre , like to see what they are like on the falco , i will report back , if there crap i will change them as soon as the rear is dun , just want the bird back on the raod as soon as possible :smt003
andy i dont ride like a girl :smt003 just read that some folk get 6000 + miles from their tyres :smt003 i can get 4000 even if its all in the middle :smt005
looked at those second hand tyres £100 / pair good bargain only been on track with 4 mm tread left all round , not sure as you said about they were nuff in the wet but a good deal nun the less, but i not like you go out in the rain :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005
heres the link if anyone is interested
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PIRELLI-DIABLO-SU ... 27b951799f look as if some one has been off road with these :smt003
thanks for your comments , maybe when im flush ill get the road attacks ,
also read that if you put a sport road attack on the front it wears out at the same time as the rear with better handling on the falco , witch i would prefer cause im fed up running on mismatched tyres during change over finding the tyres that suit me ,
im off to get some iron bru with a wee tad of whisky :smt005 been a long post for me :smt005
