Domain transfer

#1 Post by Nooj » Sun Mar 06, 2011 1:24 pm

Anyone know how to do it? I don't know if i still own shinybikesyndrome.co.uk or not.

My Mr.Site contract has run out, some emails say I don't own it, some say I do (or as much as I can understand what they're on about). I've initiated a transfer to 1and1, but have got lost in the jargon and don't really know who owns what or who I'm supposed to pay to keep the name.

If someone would like to earn a couple of pints and sort it out for me that would be especially appreciated as I haven't got a fecking clue. It's probably a five minute job if you know what you're doing, but I can see this taking me weeks and costing a lot of money :smt009

you still own it but it hasnt transferred across to 1 and 1 yet. it shows youre still tied to Mr Site and owe them any outstanding dosh at the moment.

Use your 1 and 1 login AND your Mr.Site login (which i assume you have) and use the contact us facility. ask them for a plain english breakdown of how the transfer is going and who do you need to contact if it has not transferred yet.

Thats all I did a while back when i had some transfer probs.

would offer to help but im kinda only online for a short while before going back on course!

Thanks, that's cleared it up a bit. Not sure why I owe Mr.Site any money though, unless they think I'm going to pay for another year's hosting (which I'm not).

you probably dont, but dont confuse hosting with domain..

you can have a domain name without hosting.

if Mr site still run your domain name,(which they do: Renewal date: 23-Feb-2012) simply take out a hosting package with 1 and 1.. you'll get a web address off one of their 1 and 1 servers .. which wont look pretty..

but then you go into the domain name at mr shite and 'point' it to the bit of the 1 and 1 site you create, where you want the entrance to be.

a bit like where ive pointed www.falcoridersite.co.uk to the relevant bit of this website yet i dont have the hosting package linked in..

siimples.

basically, your hosted site is still held by MR shite - but you can point the mr shite address to where you have the site really hosted - people will use the same website address and it will come up with the website - what they will not realise is that is has been forwarded on to where you are hosting

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Grazie mille, dude. I'm sure it's very simple, but for me it's like long devision, I can stare at it all week and it never makes any sense to me no matter how hard I try to understand it.

Mr Shite is right. Am currently trying to rescue Nooj's site and cannot believe they want £15 to transfer the domain away!

And even when they have been paid they don't immediately release it.

If anyone is considering using these people, do yourself a favour - forget it!

Uh-huh, their WYSIWYG web building software is crap, I ended up having to do a crash course in HTML to cut out all the junk coding their software put in. May as well have built a site from scratch.

Their live assistance/help desk is also rubbish and their site templates are very restrictive. I also couldn't get the PayPal side of the shop provided working at all.

Mr.Shite indeed! :smt013

I did a bit of digging about them. A few years back they used to have a customer forum but whenever a disgruntled customer posted on there they banned them!

Says something when a company spends more time and energy shutting up critics than on getting their product right.

In the end some of them set up a rival forum to allow them to speak freely, but Mr Site threatened to sue them so they had to clean it up. What's left is here: http://www.theunofficialforum.co.uk/blog/about/

Looks like Mr Site shut down their own forum. I wonder why....

Paypal as a partner site.. wow, they must be good... until you read on and the only partnering they do with paypal is using paypal to accept payments...

Prince's trust... Wow, until the bit that says.. Mr Site helps support the Princes Trust by providing websites for their young entrepreneurs.. :smt012

Smoke, Mirrors and whole piles of horse shit IMHO.

Anyway, I assume youre sorted now Nooj!
