Falco for sale: more pics

#1 Post by Ozboy » Fri Mar 04, 2011 6:31 pm

Hey guys and girls,

Time has come to head back to Oz so unfortunately the Falco has to go. I thought I would give the good folk on ridersite first crack before opening up to the great unwashed. I need to give it a bit of a clean and then take some more pics which I will try to do on Sunday.

Here’s the basics;
Black 2001 Falco
3 former keepers (before me)
Approx 23k miles (will confirm when I post up more pics)
Taxed till 30th April, 2011
MOT till 9th May, 2011
Front and rear tyres virtually 100%

Extras
Fuel brushed titanium exhausts (incl removable baffles. Went through MOT without baffles)
Standard unmarked exhausts
Ohlins rear shock with remote preload adjuster – bought new for this bike in ’04, all £640 worth!
Skidmarx belly pan and rear hugger
Pillion seat cowl
Bubseywoo sidestand (mark II version)
Phillips Crystalvision Globes plus spare
Genuine Givi wing rack – had to get the rack in from NZ
Givi – 55 litre topbox. A long way from new but still virtually waterproof, takes 2 full face helmets, or easily your gear for a week
Genuine Aprilia Tankbag – new old stock from the States
Telferizer yoke GPS mount
RAM mount/holder for Garmin GPS
I’ll include the actual Garmin GPS unit (Nuvi 255W with Western Europe maps) as well but not until I get back from Italy at the start of May!
12V powersocket mounted on dash – not particularly expertly but does the job
Oxford Hardcore XL chain and lock
Oxford Stormex Ultimate cover
Oxford Heavy Duty mini disc lock
Battery charger – not optimate
Halfords 51pce tool kit in aluminium case – obviously not great quality but enough for basic service, oil change, etc.

Due to me being too lazy the bike will be sold with all the extras.

I’ve had it 2 years, previous owner before me had it 5 years. I live in central London and was exclusively used for dry weekend rides and 2 trips – one w/end to Wales and the other a 4 day blast to Nurburgring/Black Forest. I’ve had it serviced/MOT’d at Southern Cross Motorcycles as did the previous owner. Cosmetically it is not immaculate with some scratches on RHS fairing and tank, although not too bad (will take more/closer pics and post up on Sunday). Mechanically it is excellent, has never let me down (apart from flat battery) and still puts the big smile on the dial every time I fire it up or wind it on coming out of a corner.

I’m putting it up here first because lame as it sounds I would prefer it to go to one of you guys/girls. Although I haven’t been much of a poster all your comments/technical advice/mods have been invaluable to me in my 2 years of Falco ownership.

I’ll sell it on here for £1550.

If no takes then I’ll advertise elsewhere in a week at around £2k.

OK, gave it a good clean today and possibly a final blat :smt022

As you can see from the pics mileage is 24, 481. Tyres are Bridgestone BT 023R's - their sport touring tyre. I had the Bridgestone 021's on when I went to Nurburgring and Blackforest, and short of a track day I think these are good enough for everyday use - I generally use most of the tyre and never had any uncomfortable moments in wet or dry. The worst bit of bodywork you can see in the pic on the RHS fairing - this was there when I bought it. Other than that all pretty good - just what you would expect, i.e. stone chips on the front fairing/guard and very small scratches on tank from jackets, etc. Oh, the Givi rack is the Monokey, not that it really makes much difference as I'm including the box as well. Other than that don't think there's anything else I can say or forgotten - just give me a yell if you want more pics or info.

Certainly interested as Debz' Fazer has just had a schitzoid embolism and crapped out all of it's electrics. May end up cheaper to buy this than to repair the Fazer!

Will try and get some repair quotes tomorrow and Tuesday and will get back to you ASAP.

Hey guys, have posted some more pics and info after cleaning and quick blast today.

Always seems sad and ironic that the best you ever know your bike and the best it looks is right before you get rid of it! Still seems almost criminal how cheap these are, really is not worth selling it...but then not worth shipping back to Oz either - oh well at least I'll have all the knowledge if I decide to go a Falco when I get back.

Ozboy, get some quotes for shipping before you make a rash decision.

I'd suggest a falco in that condition would sell for more than $6k here.

I brought mine over IIRC cost 600 quid for shipping and then another $2k to get it on the road here, so the difference could be marginal. You may be able to get shipping cheaper, I had to have it done by the company that was relocating me and couldn't shop around.

Just worth a thought.

Thanks Falcopops, I did have the thought.....but I'm going to take a car back to flog so that's my 1 vehicle accounted for. Bugger!

I'm just having a whinge - didn't really expect my 'cheapie' UK bike to be so good, and then I start thinking about what I'd get when I get back and for the money you end up back at the Falco.

Not all bad tho...I've got a 748 SPS waiting for me in Oz :smt002

Would you consider selling the rack and top box separately?

Sorry for circling but I'm having trouble aquiring decent luggage

No, not thinking of separating at this stage. It has to go and as I've mentioned I'm lazy so would prefer the whole lot to go to the buyer.

Things might change if I've still got it in a couple of weeks but will give vultures due notice if I go this way.

i bet this thread has just had an awful lot of "watch this thread" links applied....

I dunno - the smell of vulture shite around here these days....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

There's a good chance Debz will have it. Just need her to look over it and decide on Friday. Until then... my vulture bat is within easy reach! :smt003

Very interested. Didn't see any mention of alarm/immobiliser. Not that I really believe in them but Insurance company's tend to like them. Does it have one?

Sorry for being a vulture!!! Had my RSVR stolen just under a month ago (after I had it for just 13 days) so am having massive withdrawal symptoms of Aprilia V-twin goodness.
