Super Duke v Tuono Opinions?

Going to test ride a KTM Super Duke this week. My lovely wife has just landed a new job and agreed that after 5 yrs of Falco ownership I can finally look for a new bike.

A few of you will remember I have recently considered swapping over to a Tuono but there are some amazing deals to be had on the 2006 Super Duke at the mo.
I wondered if anyone here had ridden either the Super Duke or the latest Tuono and if so what their impressions were / are?

Unfortunately this means I probably will be selling the Falco as it's going to be impossible to keep 2 road bikes (unless both the SD & Tuono don't suit me of course) I'm planning to put her as she is on eBay and set a decent reserve (what do you all think I should ask??) If I don't get any takers I'll put the bike back to std trim and offer all the various bits etc..to you guys first (there are a lot of bits!) before ebaying them.

It's sad I know and I've thoroughly enjoyed both owning, riding and personalising my Falco I'm now ready for a change

I'll let you know (for those interested) about how the test ride goes, but if anyone has any experiences and or opinions on either of the bikes I'm considering I'd be grateful for your input

If any of you know of any potential buyers that might be interested in my Falco please let me know

I had some thoughts like that recently and the choice would have been the superduke2. It is one sexy looking bike.

Only rode the one KTM at the shite bikeshow in the NEC coulple of years back. It was pretty good. They should have had the SD's but KTM let them down. I was dissapointed to say the least

Well you've obviously getting past it so I think you'll like the SD as it'll make you into a 21 year old again

But without the capacity to really use it.

Its very leary but great if you don't "give a shit"

I likes KTM's. Had a Duke 2 for a couple of years. Good build quality and lots of character, and very nice to look at.

I must admit if I had the money it would be a superduke or 950SM.

But if you do sell the Falco bit, baggys firt refusal on silencers and shock (don't even know what you've got )

On a serious note, if you want the most money back, you have to put it back to std. Falco's (and most other bikes) are still going for silly low money.

Personally I have never ridden a Super Duke and I think the choice is hard to make having ridden a tuono. I would say it's a dogs bollocks of a bike but it's not that different to a well sorted falco and frankly I think the falco looks much better.
So there you have it you said you wanted a change easy buy a Super Duke it's the way to go.

Just make sure when you are trying out these new bikes that you try a little known Italian number - known as the SL1000 - you may be pleasantly surprised ...................

BUT if you do get lured away by the thought of spending your Mrs' hard-earned, at least we're on a forum that does cater for other makes - and if you do settle on the Tuono, we might at last get some of the non-Falco Aprilia areas up and running!

BTW IF you do get rid of the Falco, Bagsy first dibs on the tail light lens - you can't let that go with the bike to someone who's not been longing for one of them for ages!

Your thinking of what?? SD v Tuono? It's a well know fact that both are totally crap, they have wheezy engines, rubber frames and the girlies hate the looks of them. Sorry Rich, my advice is to keep the Falco mate

I know I've ranted on about the Super Duke before but lord on earth they are absolutely f*ckin awesome!!! I rode one last year and if I'd had the 8-odd grand spare I would have bought one there and then. Best (twin) engine, brakes and handling of any bike I've ever ridden. I've owned Fireblades, a GSX-R1000 K4, Speed Triple, TL-S 1000, CBR600, RD350LC etc) and NONE of them came even close. It was totally alive and respond to the tiniest input......If you get one you'll be a very lucky man. The Tuono is a great bike, I've never ridden one, but I just don't think they compare. Irrespective of the various abilities of the two bikes the Super Duke is the best looking bike out there at the moment, (apart from maybe the MV F1000 Veltro Strada ) and the Tuono just doesn't float my boat, the colour schemes are simply hideous.

Super Duke every day of the week for me.....plus there's very few of 'em about and they've now sorted the fuel tank size issue and fitted bigger ones - 70 miles between stops wasn't great. Enjoy but surely you can have both bikes and the Falco must stand you at nowt by now, you know you don't sell it.

SuperDuke will be my next bike. I've already started making one from my Falco
I've never ridden it but I'd put my money there (if I had it). I've ridden Speed3, Tuonos, judging on looks alone SD would eat them both alive.

I should be sticking with Aprilia but Tuono is not far enough from my Falco Fighter to justify nearly 200% of value in real world.

And I'd trust KTM on build quality (their off road roots).

I had a cheeky little test ride on an 06 SuperDuke on Saturday. It is without question an awsome bike and I could see great fun to be had around town or the twisties, BUT I gave it a little blast down the M3 as well and couldnt get on with it there. Dont think I can afford it anyway but I wont be ditching the Falco. The 07 SD in black is luvverly though ! Will there be a rene airkit on the cards Put me on the vulture list

The Tuono is far easier to ride, the SuperDuke has a very sensitive throttle, going from closed to open is like an on-off switch (at least it was on the one I tried out), it also has a teeny-weeny tank range. As good as the KTMs are, and they do beat the Tuono in a couple of areas, I'd say get the Tuono, it's a better bike over all and you'll feel instantly at home on it.

Thanks for all your comments. I've got the test ride on the SD booked for tomorrow and I shall let you all know the outcome.

Although it is an 07 model I'm trying the deals are to be done on the 06 models. I've followed Gary Mears long term test in Bike mag whilst he's put 15,000 miles on the SD in all weathers and have been very very impressed. He reckons he can get about 120 miles to a tank but to be honest about 100 miles would be fine for me anyway. I will also try the Tuono though and I'm still keen to test a Ducati S4R, so over the next few weeks I'll report back

I have an interested party in buying the Falco as it stands, but I will try to honour your requests for all the various parts if nothing comes of it and I sell the bike in standard trim.
