Carbon fibre bodywork

#1 Post by Tash » Thu Dec 30, 2010 10:55 am

I have been asked by one of my customers to get some CF bodywork for the Futura, now I can get some made but as they would be special order I would need to have 10 people committed. So who would be interested and what parts would you want, as soon as I know numbers and parts I will get some prices(these will be comparable to CF parts for other Aprilias).
Already been asked for-
1-Nose fairings
2-Side fairings
3-Seat panels

Cheers
Mark

Decision time Mart .... do you go for fairings in new-fangled carbon fibre or will you be going for some in hand-crafted polished mahogany with brass fittings?

am certain we can make some coffin orientated joke about the mahogany etc....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Neither - a friend runs a plating & hard anodising company; he's experimenting with nickel plating plastics. When he's confident his process works, I shall have my spare fairing panels nickelled. Ultimate Silver Machine!!

BTW, Pete, haven't forgotten about your interest in shiny things.

Carbon fibre has never really appealed to me aesthetically - just don't find large areas of it attractive. Might be more interested in something like NWS/Pyramid's 'Silver Ghost' material, as per my hugger - looks a bit like aluminium/silvery carbon fibre. Teak might be nice, too - mahogany is just so commonplace. Or weathered larch - keeping the silver theme going.

However, my tastes aside, I'm sure there'll be a reasonable level of interest, Tash; best of luck with it. Might be worth looking into panniers as well??

Mahogany, brass etc - just reminded me - Edwardian things - my grandfather managed Dewsbury's first motorbike shop, opened ca. 1910; think my loopy PITA sister has a photo of him and the shop. Bugger! - means I'll have to talk to her.

OOH, that's nice!! Very nice! Not sure what a Fut would look like done entirely in it, though.

Hmm, combination of black and titanium CF could be quite tasty - say, black upper & lower fairing panel, with titanium middle? Anyone here any good with photoshop?

But probably beyond my means at present - sigh . . . :smt009
