no - not easily
the usb connection, is, iirc, a way of updating the units software
two options - one is to use svhs leads and a video capture card on a pc or take hard drive out and then rip using assorted PC software utils
I believe that the way that skys stuff is encrypted is also a bit of a bugger - ie, free to air stuff should be fairly straight forward, sky movies etc... nasty

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

As i understand it, the USB ports on all Sky boxes, including the latest ones, are not set up to do anything. They have a power supply and will charge stuff but won't actually communicate with anything. Tried plugging an external hard drive into mine a little while ago and it didn't do anything, I think it's just something they included on the design just in case they want to use it at a later date.
The hard drive itself is just an ordinary IDE item which you may be able to remove and connect into a PC or caddy but I seem to remember being told once upon a time that they stuck some kind of crazy firmware on it which is peculiar to Sky boxes.

I know you can transfer recorded material to tape/dvd or another hard drive recorder (while watching the programme
) which is a pain to say the least.
But of course Sky likes it that way! I have only transfered to tape and it worked fine
.
I too thought "usb" easy peasy
but as previously stated it is just for future upgrades
