Tank size ...

#1 Post by cornish mafia » Thu Oct 28, 2010 7:03 pm

QUICK QUESTION FOR YOU FORUM GODS : - does anyone know if the tank size was changed on the later models from 21 L to 18 L and if so any ideas as to when it happened and would a 21 L fit straight swap on to a 18 L one ? :smt017

3 L would make a bit of difference for distance riding..........

I'm not aware that they changed the tank capacity. I seem to remember there was a discrepancy between the marketing blurb (21 ltrs) versus 18 ltrs that more technical write-ups claimed. I tend to fill up around 140 - 150 miles and it's a struggle to get more than 1 ltr per 10 miles in the tank (e.g. 14 to 15 ltrs).

I did run out once after running it from a full tank and certainly didn't get 21 ltrs in, and I think I'd done about 180-odd miles. I believe mine in 18 ltrs and it's a 2000 reg.

Happy to be proved wrong, but my money is on 18 ltrs (and they're all like that sir). On a long tour, I'm usually glad to have an excuse to pull in for a fill up at 140 miles (but I am creaking into old age).

Tanks (and virtually everything else apart from forks and paint) was never changed in the life of the Falco

That's my view, they never changed them.
Blurb says 21 Litre but filling up always hints at something below that, probably nearer 18.

Blimey Cornish is there anything you aren't going to change? Should you have brought an RSV and raise the bars instead? :smt003

Seriously i like what you're doing and it's good for us mere mortals (the ones that aren't in the top 5 Falcos in the UK) to look up in wonder...I'm even warming to the Orange wheels

Is where my money would go. :smt002
I'm right 98% of the time so why worry about the other 3%?

Hello gang , the reason i asked was because i too had read somewhere that they had a 21L tank then i also read 18 L tank so was throwing it out there to the forum gods to answer the question ...........then would have been straight to ebay for a quick look if they were 21 L .... :smt003

And Furygan you're not to off the spot there as i've gone RSVR - FALCO - RSVR ( EDWARDS REP ) back to the Falco , i just prefer the Falco over the RSVR but Miss the RSVR grunt although saying that now mine is running almost right it's not tooooo far out. One idea i was looking at was fitting the RSVR engine in it , maybe have to save that for a later date until i see what you guys come up with ............................would a GSXR thou engine fit ??? :smt017

As for the wheels they too are growing on me everyday so much so that i may have to re-think the re-spray .............should have some drawings coming soon from a mate who's designing it for me ...................AND I THOUGHT THE WHEELS ARE RED !!!! :smt005

As for tank range i'd be happy with anything over 120 miles ........

Once more thanks for the reply lads always good to know you lot will keep me in check !!! :smt005

i have got to 85 before the fuel light light while hooning though.....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Depends how they measure it.

The funny plastic thing under the filler cap doesn't make it easy to brim it full and the tank contains the fuel pump and filter. Maybe if you pull all of those out the "raw" capacity might be nearer to the 21 litres.

It's always worth spending a bit of extra time filling it above the plastic thing in the filler.

Only getting about 100 mph out the bike having fiun so thinking of ways to last longer .............and if you could let the miss know how to make me last longer she'd appreciate it !!! :smt003

Pull the clutch in and move out of second gear and into third, let the clutch out again.
It'll go much faster than that.
