Abba stand owners

#1 Post by gazuk » Tue Mar 06, 2007 9:21 am

What fitting kit do you have. My falco is 2002 and they seem to have to classes of falco. They list a falco from 2002 and SL1000.

My query is, although my bike was registered in 2002, it may be an earlier model (I believe Falco's do hang around in showrooms for a while). Was there a significant change for the 2002 Falco?

Any differences between Falcos are very minor and none of them will affect the Abba stand
  • Early ones had larger air-box inlet boots
    Clutch was improved
Sidestand switch was given a steel pin rather than a plastic one
The latest ones had Marzocchi rather than Showa forks
It is said that the blue spring Sachs was improved at some point
    The colours changed
The very very last ones lost the ability to turn the lights off (not mine fortunately)
    The sales price went down
In USA they released the "R" version ..... it has an extra letter "R"
I heard some rumour that they upgraded the starter relay
..... now I'm struggling .... Oh yes, the oil pipe recall issue on the early ones ...... now I really am struggling

Got it .... Bronze ones introduced as the zenith of cool looks, power and speed. :smt004

Can't see anything there that would affect the stand.

Thanks for that. Wonder why Abba Stands list Falco 2002 onwards?

Yeah ... things like this make you think that you really MUST have missd something .... but I honestly can't think of any good reason .... other than a clash of colours !

Just ordered the stand and the reason why they have a different fitting kit for 02 Falcos's onwards is because prior to that the swinging arm had a big nut on the end (possibly 32mm), whereas after 02 they where hollow.

Anyone with a 01 Falco confim this? Mine is hollow both sides.

What surprises me is that (guessing here) you've had to buy extra frame pins, when I bought mine it came with 4 different ones (plus the 2 that are standard) for IMS £89.

I'm confused ... I've looked in my parts manual (which I believe is Issue 1 - for the early bikes) and looked at the Aprilia Yorkshire online parts guide (which states it's for 2000 to 2003 models) and only one swingarm pivot is mentioned .... part no 8125830.

As you suggested, I guess we need someone who actually has an early model to confirm this - but the info I have seems to be saying there is no difference - but I also can't see a good reason why Abba would say it was different if it isn't.

No difference, hollow both sides on early bikes!
I am sure the same tapered pins will fit all bikes, no problem.
They seem to have duff information.

Like DR, I actually use an NWS Ultipro stand and they didn't offer alternative options when I bought mine, just one model to fit all Falcos.

Mine's an early model and I also use the NWS stand. The swing arm pivot has holes both sides that accept the tapered pins of the stand.
