Norfolk FAQ
The Forum's Main Event Of The Year

So when is it this year?
  • Friday 24th to Sunday 26th September 2010
You can come for as much or as little of the weekend as you like …. but do come !
Where do we stay?
  • We have the use of a barn in a field near Acle in Norfolk …. about half way between Norwich and Great Yarmouth.
You can sleep in the barn
You can pitch your tent outside
If you “don’t do camping” you’ve still no excuse as Acle has a very conveniently situated Travelodge http://www.travelodge.co.uk/search_and_ ... otel_id=29
    Sidestand pucks are advisable
What are the facilities like?
  • Well they’re pretty good actually.
The barn has a big barney type of space where we can eat, sleep and if the weather isn’t brilliant, can hide indoors.
The barn has a kitchen and a bathroom with proper flushing loo, hand-basin and shower ….. not your average barn.
What are the catering arrangements?
  • We all tend to feed together.
Pete and Sam are sorting things out – just be prepared to chip in towards the costs and be prepared to lend a hand with getting things ready and clearing up as opportunities arise.
Last year the cost was (IMHO) dead reasonable and it looks as though that's the case this year too (see below)
    The catering provided will include:
    • Friday Night
      Saturday Breakfast
      NOT Saturday Lunch
      Saturday Evening
      Sunday Breakfast
The plan is for people to sort themselves out for Saturday lunch - probably stopping somewhere on our rideout like we did last year.

If you’ve particular dietary needs then pm Pete (Aladinsaneuk) and he’ll discuss with you.

Of course, if you really want to cook your own stuff, the kitchen is there ...

Drink was all part of the catering deal last year – and it's basically the same this year – it’s really a case of all chipping in and there being a booze (and soft drinks) run.

Basically, the catering is easy – no need to load up the bikes with cookers and food .
Water On Site:
  • The water on site is from a tested and approved borehole but still not recommended for pregnant ladies (there is no similar concern for fat blokes that look a bit pregnant)
How do I find it?
  • The barn is located here:
    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?hl=en& ... 8&t=h&z=17
…. And using Google maps you can get directions from wherever you happen to be.
Note also on that map are two additional points, one is the turn off the small single track road onto the dirt track that leads to the barn. As you can see the barn is some distance down the dirt track and there is a farm gate half way down it that you need to open and close after you’ve gone through.
Here is a link to Google Maps Street view that shows the approach to the track …. You can explore to familiarise yourself.

The other marked point is the turn off of the A47 as you turn onto Branch Road on the last bit of your journey.
This is marked as a bit of a warning. The unwary may need clearance from Air Traffic Control …..
Branch Road immediately climbs a ramp up over a railway bridge …. And down the other side.
At any serious speed, think aircraft carrier launch ramp …. and on a fully laden bike with limited changes of underwear, it’s not big and it’s not clever to use it to emulate Josh Brookes at Cadwell …..
The following link shows this in Google street view – though doesn’t really give the true scale of its launch capability – but take a virtual trip along so that you are ready for it …
    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?hl=en& ... 214.6,,0,5

    Please Note:
For the last part of the journey, the road beyond Halvergate is a dead-end on which the local children, traffic and farm machinery don't expect to meet traffic. Ride with care.
What does it cost?
  • The site will cost £10/person for the w/e. That is a contribution toward the running costs (services, insurances etc).
Food is estimated to cost between £5-£10 for the weekend
Drink will be on top of that so combined food and drink might be £15 to £20 at a guess.
What’s Occurring?
  • Well Friday afternoon/evening we’ll be rolling in – Sam and Pete will let you know from when.
Friday night will be a time for chillin’ – more than likely around a fire.
Saturday will involve more chillin’ and Pete is sorting out a rideout for those that wish to ride out.
Griff will also be there and I’m anticipating he’ll be able to help with suspension setup and other bits and bobs as he does some chillin’ as well as helping us out with our bikes.
Saturday night we’ll chill some more.
Sunday is the day we pack up and head back from whence we came – maybe ambling round a bit more of Norfolk or just taking the scenic way home.

…. and of course whatever else you want to happen. For example, Hanna has asked if she can play her recorder for us one evening …..
Contact Info:
  • Sam will be onsite all w/e and will PM his mobby# to anyone that wants it.
Any questions, please ask

Above all, PLEASE COME …. and no excuses about distance – I’m travelling all the way from Spain to be there on Friday.
It’s going to be good
