#1 Post by Aladinsaneuk » Sun Mar 04, 2007 9:34 am

got myself suited up, popped the tank bag on, key in ingnition, alarm disabled.

Bike turned over, no start

hmmm - well, turn bike round, faff around a bit and key in ignition, disable alarm thumb starter - click only

repeat, notice that EFI flashes on right lcd screen....

leave for a bit while i come inside to get coffee and post this, just in case it is flooded....

efi flash sreen is clear now, just a tick when pressing start button

does seem to be an awful lot of condensation on it this morning though, so have popped a few covers off, sprayed wd40 like it is going out of fashion and have left a fan heater running....

well, looks like the solenoid - so will whip that off and have a look at it - I take it as read that they just fail - and cleaning etc will do bugger all?

and if it needs replacing, any one remember what the replacemant part was from a jap bike - af forums are down.....

yep, solenoid is deader than tony blairs charisma....

yamaha part ordered in - cheers for the number - came in at just under 30 quid for those that wonder about such things - aprilia one i believe is just under 50 quid - and I am a very careful red sea pedestrian :)

looks like the alarm system is also wired into it... why do i feel sweaty palms coming while I await a visit from Mr Fuckup.....

I hate alarms it's no wonder they reduce bike theft because 4 out 10 times they are fitted wrongly and screw up the bike.

Are you sure it's not the battery? EFI warning can be caused by a wet air sensor inside the off side air intake. FIX it by blow drying with a hair drier and squirt with a good damp spray inhibitor. :smt002

Clearing Fuel when flooded: Open throttle wide and hold whilst holding in the clutch to reduce drag, turn starter until she fires and upsets the neighbours, never pump the throttle or this will just squirt in more fuel. :smt003

thanks thumper, but is definitly the solenoid - both plastic covers a little melted, and when i short across, the bike starts, fires and runs

was worth trying everything else but.....
