Seems like I have a 'flat spot' on my headstock bearings.
I intend to replace the bearings but before I take on the challenge I would like to know how difficult it actually is. By that I mean do I need special tools? Are the bearing press fitted and if so how easy is it to get the lower bearing out? How do I press them back in? Etc etc... Your advice is very much appreciated.
Also, was thinking about these... are they better than the OEM?

I changed mine when I stuck the Ohlins forks in.
I just used the standard bearings but the rollers might be a good way to go.
Not that difficult really but I had to make a special tool to tighten nuts 5 and 6 in the diagram.
You can buy one but I made one from a socket .... though you really need a deeper socket than I started with.
Torquing it up properly is important - you torque it up to a fairly high torque (I forget off hand what it was) slacken it off and then torque it down to the final torque.
That said, the rollers may have a different torque requirement - I dunno.
