Sat Nav Holder
Has anyone come up with a ideal solution on carrying a sat nav yet.
Had to use one the other day and had to place the unit in my pocket!!!! Have we not got a plastic tank?I presume magnetic tank bags are of no use.
I remember subject mentioned before without a solution

erm - actually quite a few solutions mate :)
easiest - clear plastic pocket on aprilia tank bag
next - dedicated mounting - aka ram ball mount as you get with the garmin systems
telferizer headstock mount - adds a large ram ball to headstock so you can fit anything you want
next dedicated plates - I recently acquired some sheet galvanised metal and made a solid mount that comes from under the clock cowl - very easy i found to do
few ideas here : https://www.ridersite.com/viewtopic.ph ... ght=satnav

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I remember comments the last time this was mentioned, most of us on here seamed to be anti sat nav.
I thought the tank bags would be no use due to the plastic tank.
I do not have a Garmin but a navigon and they have no official motorcycle accessory's
All the suggestions are for the Garmin satnav but I want to use my car navigon and im sure not everyone wants to fork out for a dedicated bike unit.

I use a Garmin on the bike but not a bike specific one as they are too expensive - though they do have some very good features. Bought a couple of broken ones off of ebay and made one good one out of them for very little money.mrapriliafalco wrote:

Made a mount and power supply for it several years ago.

Agree with RAM mounts for the easiest solution. They do a range of mounts, brackets, extension arms etc that should allow mounting the unit almost anywhere.
The one thing I would NOT recommend is sticking it in a tank bag! The time it takes to look down to the tank, refocus your eyes and take in the info is just toooo long. Yes, you can stop and check your route but, if it's in sight, you WILL end up trying to look at it!
Much better mounted up on the dash where you can catch a quick glance at it.

The ride is the reason ........ the destination is just the excuse.

Yep - I agree with that.
I am lucky in that I invested in a a starcom to go with my garmin - I find that system superb, even if for just listening to my music on long haul trips :)

I use my car satnav a Garmin 765
I made one out of a large bulldog clip, screwing the Satnav holder into one of the arms bent back, a bit of velcro and small piece of wood between the plastic and the clocks. Before you all laugh it works and the beauty is you can take it off in a couple of seconds, there's no bracket showing on the bike before or after and no tools needed (apart from the opperator!)
It's pushed up against the screen so doesn't vibrate, sits above the rev counter so nothing hidden from view and that's with a standard screen
Better to have it as high up as pos, didn't get on with having it in a tank bag as had to keep looking down. Has earphone socket too which is a bonus, right i'll stop waffling and let the sensible solutions carry on!
Hope to take pics at weekend

I got a tankbag
however I found that the sat nav got worryingly hot and also glare was a problem
the solution was a twig that was rolled up in a sheet of rubber non slip matting from pound stretcher (just like that oxford stuff but only £1)
worked a treat :)
satnav was the biggest screen one i could get from argos for £100

spare arm/holder off evilbay..
1./ cut off sucker thingie.
2./ drill 2 holes in large bulldog clip ( the type with fold back arms)
3./ with strip of metal/plastic whatever bolt arm (of satnav) to buldog clip.
4./ fix buldog clip to mantelpiece above the clocks.
