New Toy!

#1 Post by Tweaker » Mon Aug 02, 2010 10:47 am

So, finally found a Fut to repalce the Falco. Had to go all the way to Inverness to get it but, riding it back convinced me I'd made the right choice - 420 miles without any aches or pains - bliss :smt001
It's 02 reg with only 6500 miles on the clock, fittted Scotoiler and Hot Grips, had the wire mod and the fuel quick link changed and the rims pollished but otherwise standard and immaculate. Bizzarely, I never actually met the guy I bought it from as he works in Aberdeen and was leaving for the rigs when I was up there. We did all the talking / haggling over the phone before I went and I collected the bike from his wife. Dissapointed not meet him as he sounded a really great bloke.

So, where do I get some cans to make it sound more like a V twin and less like a sewing machine :smt003

Looks good, Dave

Has the Falco gone yet or are you still trying to get rid of it?

Might have to think about one of those myself one day if my ribs don't stop hurting on longer trips ..... really don't want to give up the Falco though

No, I've still got the Falco Andy. Haven't really tried that hard but I'll need to get out there soon.

Nice one, Tweaker.

Re exhausts - probably have to be second-hand. Look for Staintune cans - not the loudest, but they're all stainless, including the packing, so they're far more durable. Best place to look, other than e-bay, is AF1 Fut forum. Any after-market cans on the Fut work & sound much better if you ditch the collector box & replace with a straight-through link pipe, e.g. the 'H'-pipe. Also now quite rare, I'm afraid.

Some owners have attempted to modify the stock can, cutting it open & removing the packing. Varying degrees of success are reported. Have a look, again, on AF1.

PS Staintune might still be producing cans for the Fut -

Pricey!

Have fun with your Fut!

Cans

#5 Post by Tweaker » Mon Aug 02, 2010 1:02 pm

Thanks for the info MD. The Staintunes are the sort of thing I was thinking of but the price will be near a grand including postage etc - way out of my league. I'll keep tabs on fleabay and the AF1 site for now. I might also have a chat with Beowulf, as they're based only 12miles from me, to see what they could come up with. If you spot anything, I'd appreciate a heads up.
Very happy with the bike so far and the GF's bum approves too! :smt002

i would also consider fuel cans - they seem helpful folk.....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Yep - green for unleaded and black for diesel.

Nice bike :) I looked at the Futura a while ago and may again in the future.

Re Falco, unfortunately the missus won't let me have a second one yet... but I'm still working on her :smt003

Good luck with selling it, although the way she looks I doubt you'll have much trouble!

My mates got a futura in to see what exhausts he can make for it. I've given him the 2 downpipes off my falco cos we didnt know if the fut's were different?

But I know it will be stainless system front to back with 2 end cans in existing place. I will be seeing him in the pub tomorrow and will ask for updates if you like - but I wont reply till wed cos if i leave the pc on , anything could happen :smt002

aye :) mine is a 52 plate and came with 8000 miles on the clock :)

Grats on joining the more exclusive realm of aprilia owernship :), and i have to agree it's just way too quiet as standard, will probably get some cans for it next year once funds are a bit better than they are atm, i have my eye out for a h pipe but so far nada, though there's a local company not far from me that makes custom exhausts which i'll contact at some point see if they can knock something up :).

Nice to know you will be sticking with a V60 Dave, I'm sure you'll tell us all about it pretty soon.
Hopefully there is still a bit of nice touring weather still to come.
It will be sad to see one of the best Falcos go, but good luck with the sale.
P.S. If you sell as it is I would also be interested in the standard wheels, (probably more interested than the Oz wheels if I'm honest as it would be difficult to justify that sort of money at the moment). I need to get my own wheels powder coated in the very near future and it would be really nice to get a spare set done and not take the bike off the road for a while. So if you do decide to sell the standard wheels please let me know.

Just fitted a pair of carbon cans on my Fut.Left the 'breadbox' on-the new cans are plenty loud enough.Bought them from a guy in N.Ireland who'd had them made by a company called Carbon Performance in Scotland. He only paid 300 quid. The other alternative if you want new is Quill http://www.quillexhausts.com/cgi-bin/sh ... Hi Howard. Yep, couldn't give up on the Aprilia thing - just needed a Rotax powered sofa :smt002 I've still got the original wheels somewhere with useable tyres - I'll let you know if they're left after the Falco is sold.

Hey Pierre! Yep, keep me updated please. Hopefully, he might have something about the same time as my bank balance recovers. I'm after something fruity but not too loud (no Dale Winton jokes perleese!)
