Falco accessories - worth selling seperately?

#1 Post by MartinR » Thu Mar 01, 2007 11:39 pm

Hi,

I'm regretfully going to be putting my Falco up for sale soon, and there are a few parts I'm wondering if it's worth selling seperately. I don't suppose anyone has an idea of the approximate value of the following, and whether there would be anyone interested? (just a rough idea, obviously depends on condition etc):

- Falco Maxton shock with remote reservoir and ride height adjust (~£500+ new, got approx 5000 miles on) I'd like to sell it with the bike, but if a buyer wants to screw the price down I may take it off, if it's worth my while...
- Aprilia factory panniers and frames (used but sound. Can't remember exactly how much they were new, can you still get them?)
- Motrax Top Block footpegs for Falco or Mille (£40ish new? Much better grip than the standard ice skates!)

Ta for any help - note I'm not selling them yet (will see how the bike goes), but if it turns out to be worth my while I'll post what's available on here when it's available.

Cheers,
Martin

PS - I hope this is OK in the Falco section rather than the Items for sale, seeing as it's just an enquiry for the moment. Mods feel free to move it if not appropriate

How much for the Maxton? Im currently watching a few yellow-spring Sachs, (they go for around the £60ish mark), and they end this weekend... Let me know a price soon!... :smt003

Second call on the Maxton if FM doesn't want it :smt003

And, of course, if you decide to sell it :smt023

If you're selling soon, MartinR, are you getting out for a few "last rides"? A few of us are meeting up on Sunday (weather/DIY/missus's permitting :smt003 ), down in Newark - have a look at the sticky at the top of the Falco forum.

I've missed the boat here cos I would have been interested in the Maxton, but IMO you have to take the parts off and sell them seperately. They will not be classed as adding much value to the bike, but it will just help it sell quicker than a stock one (bit like double glazing on a house)

I have not come across anyone who has sold a falco and bought another (bet I'm going to be corrected here), so most Falco buyers are new to the Falco and will not appreciate the benefits of things like the shock, sidestand and all the other 'must do' mods. Me, I would pay extra for these now, but thats because I'm going through the hassle of getting them done. You may be lucky and get someone who has done loads of research and will appreciate the extras, but normally you will get Jo public who had read the reviews, seen the price valuations and that's what they are prepared to pay. Selling thoes bits seperately will raise a fair few hundred quid, which in todays deflated bike market can be quite significant % of the bikes selling price.

Martin,
Panniers still sold through Aprilia Yorkshire at silly prices, see link below -

Always go much cheaper on ebay.

OK, thanks for the replies and the info, good to see there's plenty of interest.

It may end up being a month or so before I'm ready to sell stuff, depending on how long the bike takes to sell and how much haggling over parts is involved. Sorry to be so vague, but I think a part of me is refusing to believe the Falco is actually going so it's resisting definite moves like getting rid of stuff until it's finally gone! Too many great memories...
However I promise that whatever bits I have I'll post up on here again, and/or contact the people here who have indicated interest.

Just one answer to the guy looking at Sach's shocks for £60 - if that's the price you are looking at paying I'd go ahead and get one cos I'm afraid the Maxton doesn't really compete with that. If I do end up selling it, I'll be asking somewhat more cos it's in a whole different league (check out the maxton webpage http://www.esling.btinternet.co.uk/maxton/).
In fact, just to add a plug for Maxton, mine was the readers bike that was featured in the Ride magazine article (Dec 04 I think?), and the magazine tester who rode it back-to-back with the standard bike couldn't believe how much better the handling was.

And as for rides out, thanks for the invite but I'm afraid I've done my last ones on the Falco for now (unless of course it doesn't sell and I drag it back out for summer). It is now cleaned to within an inch of its life and hermetically sealed in the garage cos I can't be arsed spending all that time on it again! I also have an old Thundercat to run around on which is what will be getting dirty these days.

Cheers guys, watch this space

Martin
