Eek another clutch problem...sorry!

#1 Post by furygan man » Thu Jul 01, 2010 12:55 pm

Had a ride out yesterday and found getting neutral a real problem which got worse, even getting out if first or second was a real effort, the only time it would got into neutral was if i switched the bike off. Same thing this morning, when i put it in gear with the clutch full in it wanted to move forward!!

Called out AA, he bled the clutch and thinks it might be a leak from the cluch slave cylinder, when i first picked up the bike i stored it through the winter and noticed a small oily deposit leaking onto the top of the side stand area, when i used the bike in the spring i had to top up clutch level slightly

The AA guy said keep an eye on it but just a bit worried to go on any journeys, is it something someone (with no knowledge!) or drop into a mechanic and get him to investigate??

All comments welcome as ever

The slave seals do fail.
Once you've confirmed it is this, if you're feeling flush, replace the slave with an MPL, Evo or Oberon .... if you're a bit more skint, then just replace the seal in the standard one. Don't pay Aprilia prices for the seal - Chabby found a source at a much nicer price:

Thanks Andy, can you illaberate if you have time on the pro's of the ones you've listed, money not an issue if it helps make the bike perform better/reliable. If i buy one of these would i still need to purchase the revised clutch jet too (excuse my lack of understanding!)
