Clutch issues?

#1 Post by HisNibbs » Sat Jun 12, 2010 9:26 pm

I've started to notice a little pulsing back pressue through the clutch lever and a slight judder when gently slipping the clutch in traffic.

Something comming loose? With 50,000 miles on the clock maybe time time to strip the clutch out to have a look?

I'm pretty sure I saw something posted recently about this (could have been on AF1) - a search may reveal the answer (or just confirm someone else has had this)

the pulsing is an area of the disk pushing the pads back free the buttons of first before you go buying disks.

what an idiot. :smt003

my falco gives a little pulse through the clutch lever, not that bad though, maybe take steel plates out and mix them up a little and retry.

Thanks for the input.

Warped plates I'm not too worried about but a bearing or retaining nut is another matter. Didn't get to it this weekend.,so I'll try another week or two of commuting and hope nothing breaks.

Clutch wouldn't disengage Wednesday and I had to call AA recovery.

So this weekend I'm going to have to investigate.

Good call anzacinexile!

Bearing broken up but not much surrounding damage. I'll probably just replace the bearing and diaphram. Any other opinions.

The bearing is FAG16004 RF.

To ensure I've cleaned out all the bits I'd like to remove the basket behind the clutch basket, The one that has the cross springs behind it but though it floats foeard and back a mm or two, I can't see how it comes off. Any one advise?

Sorry Keith - never needed to delve in there - though I dare say some will have (and some on AF1 too)

If you have the plates out of the basket you should be able to see a bluddy great M24 nut in the middle. You're going to have to find some way to lock the basket because that nut is done up to 17Kgm and covered in Loctite.

Personally I wouldn't worry to much. Blow behind the basket with an airline if you have one but any bits are going to be flung out as the clutch spins. As a result, the swarf should collect at the bottom of the casing.

Hi Anzacinexile,

I'd already removed that nut and the clutch basket but there appears to be another "outer basket" carrying some cross springs behind it, behind that. This basket floats a mm or two and there does'nt appear to be anything retaining it. I suspect it might be a tight fit over the end of the shaft and something that might require a special tool. It might also just need a little harder tug.

It seems pretty clean in there but I don't have an air line.

Parts should arrive on Tuesday.
