Now my Son is very fond of Jam, so I found something completely different for him to try, DiddleDee Jam! A Falklands speciality.
The Diddle Dee Berry (empetrum rubrum) is a bittersweet species of crowberry that resembles a small redcurrant in appearance, though it has it's own unique flavour. Found in Chile, Argentina and the Falkland Islands, it is the fruit of a small shrub that covers vast swathes of the Falklands. The Islanders commonly make it into jam .
Anyway, tried it tonight and bless him if he didnt like it! It's.. well, like a gin flavour without the alcohol. bittersweet and definately an acquired taste!
Just thought i'd share my musing really, as Im pretty confident not many will have the chance to try it. If you do, be warned, it may look like a very 'pippy' strawberry jam, but the taste is somewhat different!!
