Bendy LED Indicators

#1 Post by GregD-UK » Tue Feb 27, 2007 9:34 pm

Hi all,

Bought some bendy strip LED indicators off ebay, alas, the guy who sells them doesn't provide/sell the resistor to put on the wiring to accept the increased flash rate! Oh what am I to do :smt013

Do I buy a universal resistor :smt017

Cheers in anticipation with pearls of wisdom from the informed :smt001

Warranty, yeah rite! :smt100
My warranty is the clear/smoked tail lights around the corner!!

I cant find it now. I got mine from the UK ebay but it came from America. It just plugs in place of your current flasher under the rear fairing in 5 minutes and problem solved. Maybe someone else can recommend one

They probably will, but I understand that the better option is to change the flasher relay as resistors get warm which inhibit where you can place them.

This is similar to what I have: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-Pin-LED-Indicat ... dZViewItem

But mine is rectangular - the same shape and size as the original part

What about the ones from RSVR.net?

They say they suit Prillers but I don't know if they need some sort of resistor or wiring mod to suit :smt017

Anybody tried em?

As a general rule all LEDs have the problem of lower resistance. I am not sure if the ones on RSVR come with some resistors built in or not though.

I found some a couple of days ago that should be a straight replacement too about £15 IIRC. Advice on the site was to avoid use with a mix of bulbs and LED's.

OK OK I'll go and find it!

Havn't had chance to try n re-sort my LED indy problem yet. :smt009
I got a flasher off Ebay but it doesnt work right unless a pair of the OE indys are left in the circuit, (still got the OE rear indys under the seat hump fer now)!
Im 'focused' on the rear shock replacement at the mo so if anyone tries FPs link and buys one, let me know the result! :smt002
Two is the magic number... ;)

Here's the really helpful reply I got from RSVR.net

Hi Andy,

To fit LED indicators is never straight forward – the resistance is lower and you have to add load boxes to the system. It also depends if you want to add 2 or 4 LED indicators with 4 you also would require a different flasher unit. Aprilia electrics are a bit of a black art and although we have sold a few of these units most people find it a bit of a challenge to get it working.

regards

Hi FC,

That is like a politicians answer :smt011 U can buy them, but, at ur own peril! Guess we need to employ a real electrical, nuclear, non-biological technician who knows his onions around the electrics of a bike :smt003

Any takers :smt006

Warranty yeah rite!

It's quite easy really.

if you know the power consumption of the LED indicators then you can figure the size of resistor you need to short accross the supply to fool the flasher unit into thinking there is a 10w bulb in place.

Maplins will have what you need and it will be cheap. Fitting might be an issue, but I'm thninking that it could be fitted at the connector block.

See if you can find out any info on the LED's (voltage or current) or take a reading with a meter if you can.
