A2 (304) stainless caliper bolts OK???

#1 Post by old git » Tue Jun 08, 2010 6:52 am

looking to replace the 2 bolts holding the calipers onto each of the forks with stainless steel so they don't look so crap.
I know technically they are not the same tensile strenght as normal 8.8 grade steel, but anyone any idea about the difference?
Is the slightly lower tensile strength of A2 going to be a problem?
Maybe with high stress if I was on track, but I'm not, so anyone actually know / done this before??

In case anyone hasn't seen the other thread on stainless bits there is quite a difference in strength between A2 and A4 stainless. You'll *probably* be alright with A2 on the streets, but why risk it for the sake of a few quid? Stick to A4 (316 grade) stainless or Grade 5 Titanium for piece of mind.
