Fitting Heated grips

#1 Post by dyzio » Fri Jun 04, 2010 9:54 pm

Hi,
Just had a little fettle, I'm at the stage where I've got a power feed sorted via a relay, the controller is mounted, bar ends and old grips are off.

Now for fitting the grips.
The left hand one slides on without any problem. The throttle side however is a bit of PITA :smt013

How did you guys manage to fit yours? Did you trim the plastic tube? By how much or is it a case of try and error?
Second thing, what would you suggest as an adhesive? I heard about hair spray but not sure it'll be up to the job :/

Cheers
dyzio

which model and make of grip?

and yes you do need to trim them

and hairspray is good - ask d-rider - his hair spray is used both as a weave and as a colur....

me, i use it to secure bar grips....

Ah, dyzio! You're going up to John o' Groats aren't you? I popped up there a couple of years ago with my tent. It rained and blew a gale all night so I lay awake frozen....in June!

Thanks, but I had a go at it and the grips are on now. Just waiting for the Evostick to grip properly. If that doesn't work I might give epoxy a go, kinda dont trust hairspray :/ The LHS grip is pretty loose and the RHS doesn't have a smooth surface.

LOL I'd like to watch that .... trying to force the grips into place along the tubes when the first contact they had started to adhere ....

EvoStick is contact adhesive, is it not? As long as you slide it on when wet, it should be OK. But as D-Rider suggests, if you wait till it gets tacky, you'll have VERY wicde handlebars!

I've always put bar grips on with that girly hair spray stuff. Spray loads, shove um on while the bars wet, then when the carrier evaporates, the grips stick. An old trick i learnt years ago that.. works well too.. :smt001
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handle bars to the saddle.

agreed will

trouble is that most here have long since lost their hair - indeed, some of them even have grey pubes....

Had a nice 80 mile bimble :)
I like how the new grips feel, the wider diameter means I don't get numb right hand when going slow (towns/villages). Grips work perfect as well, although despite the drizzly weather, they were not necessary.

And I can post a pic of the bikey :)
