#1 Post by mrapriliafalco » Tue Jun 01, 2010 10:44 am

Has anyone bought 016s or 023s?
Are the 016s triple compound so are the 023s gonna last much longer.

Bit early to comment on tyre life of a BT 023 yet, they only went on sale in May.
I seem to have been using Bridgstones for ever.
used 010s 020s 021s and 014s.
Quite often mixing them with the sportier version on the front.
Usually got more miles from the 02?s.
Until I tried the 014 front 021 rear combination which worked better and lasted better on the front than my curent 021 F & R set up on the Falco. (My best combination on the Falco and the old CBR1000).
Then again the 021 front uneven wear problems have been reported by a few people, hence the 023 replacements.
Certainly if the 016 is as good as the 014, I would expect it to wear well and be a good sports road tyre.
It's getting pretty confused at the moment with all sorts of people claiming that their sports tyres the also grip well in the wet and last like a sports touring tyre. Things like the Dunlop Sport Smart and Metzler M5.
Hope they do turn out this good.

I love bridgestone tyres, reckon best were the 020s,have had 010s and 016s but for some reason had far more confidence with the 020s even on trackdays.Thats why I was wondering about the 023s

:smt001 I've had an 023 on for abaout three weeks now, and it seems ok.
Not done a lot of miles on it yet but grip feels better than the 021 and 020, but it's got that silly earthing strip showing already around the middle.
What it didn't say in the write up was how it contacts to the rim, if it doesn't, how can it be to release static?

Used to be a Bridgstone man but the 21 front fiasco has made me look at something else.

Put a set of Pirelli Angels on me work hack Fazer and must say, I'm pretty impressed so far. When the 21's wear out on the Falco and wifeys SV1000, I might try a set on the big girls

:smt001 The front used to form steps in the tread pattern on the sides.
Had the problem with the first one, but this one seems ok.

If you want sticky long lasting rubber, go see Avon storm ultra 2
Got them on 4-5 weeks ago, stick like glue.
If they last anything like the previous Storms, will be V pleased

How about going through 2 1/2 fronts to one rear. Wears really strange, like an 50 pence coin. Plenty of tread in the middle and the far edges but worn through at 45' on the flanks, straight as a ruler.

The 20's never had that problem and for a while, I managed to fit a 20 front and a 21 rear and that combination was brilliant. Cant find any 20's any more so hence my defection to Pirelli's

mmmmm ..... Pirelli ........ :smt007

What better for a bike made in Italy but a tyre made in Germany?

In this month's PB there is a review of tyres and it seems to be a bit more objective in its approach than many I've seen - and the riders were sent out not knowing which tyres they had fitted to minimise personal prejudice.
Perhaps most of the tyres are a bit more sport oriented than a lot of us use but the BT016s were included.
They didn't come last .... quite .... but there was only one tyre below them.

Top tyre was the Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa - which is their new one. I've been running the Diablo Rosso for a while now (non Corsa variety) and think it excellent - so I'm not surprised.

Another that stood out was the Maxxis - it held its own being placed in the middle of the pack but a pair were £50-£60 less than most on test.

If I remember I'll stick up a quick summary tonight.

For a more full description, get a copy of PB ......

Did this on my wife's VFR after her front 021 went the same way. After some ringing around managed to get one fron Micheldever tyres on the A303 in stock and fitted for about 90 quid
