A USB penstick in case of emergency ID tag. I know it's been mentioned on here before, but always worth another plug, if for no other reason than to get people thinking.

Forgive me for saying, but surely that is a waste of bloody time. If you need fast medical help theyre not going to faff about finding a computer that they can plug a USB stick into (Hospital ones are networked and usually like the MOD ones, you cant simply plug a USB stick in in case of virusing the network) and for 30 quid, I'd probably sack it and plonk for one of those little dog tags you can roll a bit of paper up in, for £1.60.

Paramedics and ambulances carry PDA's or laptops now so a USB stick is ideal.

Looks pretty pointless to me - looking at what information it's got.
I mean:
Name and address - who cares where I live - just fix me .... and if you do eventually want to know then my vehicle registration will quickly reveal most of this or if I'm carrying my wallet, a bank card or business card will get the info .... but it's not urgent ...

Medical insurance - WTF ... Don't have it and shouldn't stop them mending me.

Emergency contacts - well the most important contact in an emergency is anyone who can fix me

Medical Info, well I don't know of any allergies, I'm not on any medication (other than over the counter painkillers for all the bl@@dy headaches) and they will see that my blood type is RED from wherever it is leaking out of me (and I've no idea what it is other than red .... I thought they could detect more precisely themselves)

So what's on there seems to be fairly useless and what use it does have is only relevant in the unlikely event of me needing medical assistance and being completely incapable of telling them this information myself.

.... and let's face it, if I did have one of these, what are the chances I would remember to take it with me when I went out? .... it would probably be sat on the worktop in the kitchen and I'd remember it was there at the same moment I realise that (yet again) I've forgotten my ear plugs and they are sat on the work top next to it ...

I suppose it may have it's uses. I suppose someone with a medical condition may find use for it for recording special requirements, but there are already tags for that, but I personally would find the only use the outside casing of it, to put in big letters 'O Negative' so they know my blood group straight away.

in an emergency setting, poncing around with a usb stick is fairly low down on the list of priorities...

first 15 minutes is all about getting the patient stable, air going into lungs and blood circulating to the brain

blood group matters not one jot - at an accident scene, a plasma expander can be used - and is safe for the god bothering sects who do not allow blood products so all is cool

in A&E universal blood will be given - O Rh - hence why that is so valuable

once stable then you may ponce around looking at shit....

far simpler, and easier solution is ICE

pretty much all of us carry a mobile phone - so, make a new contact called ICE - In Case of Emergency and save the wife/husbands etc details there http://www.cnhw.co.uk/ice.cfm has some info and that is where people will start to look

oh - and people, don't pin lock your phone if that is what you are going to do......

under the ICE contact a wise person may also record their NHS number...

Alad.. plasma expander .. is that the stuff they cant give to O Neg?
Obviously O Neg can give to all but can only have O Neg, somewhere once I was told I was fucked if they gave me plasma as I cant have it due to O Neg blood. My boss, also O Neg was told the same.

Just a bit of clarification would be good from someone in the know. I know I can only have O Neg blood, what gives on the plasma side?

I am no longer fully up to speed on ER treatments but I would use it if i needed to - it may affect the transfusion effect, but transfusing a corpse is not good karma....

Or you could try the Falklands War method of getting fluids into an injured soldier who was hypovolaemic.....

Ah .... but you wouldn't know about the special Top Secret Military Grade Plasma which has been specially battlefield-hardened.
It can be given to most combatants but it needs a certain amount of headroom to ensure pressures are safely maintained.
For this reason, it cannot be given safely to people of less than "a certain stature".

To preserve their feelings and maintain morale, they are often told that they happen to be of the wrong blood group.

Please don't spread this information around - the safety of the nation could be compromised if it fell into the wrong hands .........
