Well it happened!!

#1 Post by philgro64 » Sun May 09, 2010 8:59 pm

Went for nice run in country yesterday with my betrothed and stopped at a nice wee pub for lunch(Beech Trees Dumgoyne, really nice grub). Falco was going a treat having just been serviced the previous day. Ordered food and as I stepped outside to my seat was approached by a nice fellow who enquired 'Is that your bike lying on its side in the car park?' I looked across and sure enough there it was keeled over and helpless! Cant tell you the feeling I had as i walked over to it thinking well there goes my trip to the North West up in the air. With a helping hand I managed to get it upright to inspect the damage. Broken mirror, indicator hanging off, clutch lever snapped and scuffs to fairing and exhaust(could have been worse I suppose). Had to be escorted home by the AA due to clutch lever. Got home and ordered mirror and lever of fleabay just hope they arrive before wednesday/ Have to cancel my MOT for tomorrow and hope he can fit me in before Thursday. :smt018

Really sorry to hear that, Phil. Let me guess... standard Falco sidestand still fitted?

am sorry to hear that

and am also guessing standard sidestand :(

for any new owners out there - the sidestand needs sorting straight away

(I bought a solution before i collected my falco....)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Bugger............

Doesn't help I know but its happened to a lot of Falco owners

As been said, do something about the bluddy awful side stand - personally I got myself a US stand but there's a lot of other solutions..........

Yes chaps, Standard side stand which I had on my 'to do' list. Should have been at the top of that list in hindsight. I am surprised that no one has actually taken Aprilia to task over this feeble bit of kit. Surely it doesn't come under the category of 'fit for purpose'. As I have said it could have been a lot worse but still bloody annoying.

Did the stand bend or was it a case of the bike just falling over?

As I've said before I've never had a problem with my original stand, including ferry trips where the gorilla posing as a crew member pulled his ratchet strap so tight the front wheel came off the deck!

However, my forum induced paranoia has got to the stage that I've bought a Firestorm stand, although it's still in the garage waiting to go on at present.

Really :smt017

When they did that to mine, they bent the bracket like a banana. Thats what finally convinced me to shell out on a US stand AND keep the 3rd bolt.

Like to see the bastids bend that puppy :smt013

Did not mean to come across like that sorry.
Aprilia lawyers are also now involved in my claim.
I really want to see an end to this

I am on my 15th bike yet not one has keeled over of its own accord. Been in self same car park on numerous bikes and never had this problem. 2 weeks of ownership of a Falco and hey presto??? There is a problem with the stand which is well documented on here. The fact it hasnt happened to you(yet) I am delighted for you! If you think the 'Scottish' Police(there are 9 Forces up here by the way) have the time to surf bike forums looking for ways to negate a claim then you must have been watching too many episodes of Hamish McBeth. and yes I am embarassed that I even know that programme exists. :smt002

My mates a polis and his force trawls social network sites to solve crimes to good effect as numpties can't help boasting about their 'achievements'

Bearing in mind the fact that it will be the force's insurers, not the police, dealing with this claim and we all know what sneaky b*stards they can be when weaseling out of a payment, I would be surprised if they haven't been on this and similar sites.

if you new the circumstances and history of mrapriliafalco's run in with the police you would understand why he said what he said.
