Bike friendly matrix signs

#1 Post by Dusty » Sun May 09, 2010 8:12 am

I did a 400 mile run yesterday up as far as Dingwall. On the A9 I saw matrix signs that I had never seen before:" ALLOW MOTORBIKES TO PASS SAFELY" and "CHECK YOUR MIRRORS FOR BIKES". I wondered if the police would be equally understanding when the bikes are clocked overtaking at a shade over the 60 or 70 limit. However, it's good to have awareness raised. The Falco ran beautifully and I'm delighted with my Mille shock and Givi E21 pannioers which were on their firstouting. Less impressive is the fuel range. My Triumph consistently clocks 200 miles before the fuel light comes on, but the Falco is 130-150 which is a real pain in the **** on those longer trips. Much as I love this Falco, I'm beginning to think that I should get something with a better tank range.

tank range is about right - the tank is smaller than trumpets i think... another chap reported getting 48mpg....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

140 miles on the nail before the fuel light comes on, every time.

Just about right for me because by then, I really need a fag :smt002

Must admit the fuel range is the Falco's one major short comming as a sport tourer. I used to think 200 miles was the minimum I'd contemplate but on a long run the Falco can only get about 150. Since the bike performs so well and has been the most reliable I've ever owned, I've been prepared to forgive it that weakness. Especially as I'm developing a few weaknesses of my own and need take breaks a little more frequently than I used to. :smt002

It's just a bit more of a sociable bike than some of these others ..... you get to meet so many more fuel station workers.

LOL "Catheter Keith" ...... think that's a name that may just stick ...... Sam, how about one of those custom titles underneath his username?

Come on, the Falco tank is better than average at nearly 5 gallons, riding it fast but keeping the revs down a bit will get into the high 40s.
Could be a lot worse, you could have a VFR 12. :smt003

Nope. I could never have a VFR12. Ugliest bike I've seen in ages.
