For which satnav?
Was doing something simiar with mine (tomtom1) until I stuck it with the existing sucker thing onto the rev counter screen.
Then with a cord through the line hole in the back to a bulldog clip onto the top of the inner fairing to act as a catcher if the sucker gives way..

Seems to work OK for me

Garmin 765 wide, so not the smallest one!

I've put velcro on the lower jaw and pads on the upper jaw, aiming to clip to the plastic between the screen and the dash, will put the oposite velcro on the underside of the 'plastic dash cover' to hold th clip further in place. I've bent back the upper arm of the clip to form an 'L' shape and bolt the sat nav holder through the hole of the bull dog clip arm, as a fail safe i'll tab on some extra velcro on the back of the nav going around the back of the holder. I've got a slim 10 hr battery to velcro under the bit of plastic panel too. If it rains i'll just slid on the waterproof cover i bought.

The aim is to get it to sit above the clocks and have to look down less even though it has an earphone socket. There are similar posts where people have bolted T/metal brackets etc to the subframe behind the front fairing, this inspired me but i wanted something temporary that i could whip on and off and not leave any odd brackets/bits of metal showing...now i've set myself up for failiar!!

Be easier to take pics...if it works!

I use zip-tie (as usual). Zip it above the rev counter. Job done.

Got a TomTom Rider and was never happy with the supplied mount - so - I got an incredibly over-engineered German lump from Touratech and mounted it on top of the dash with a Ram mount

F*cks sake - not another "how I mount my satnav" thread.

Get a map or read the roadsigns - none of this rubbish when I were a lad etc etc (sound of mumbling slowy fading into the distance)

Make sure you take your Sanotogen and don't forget your afternoon nap, there's a good chap. :smt002
I'm right 98% of the time so why worry about the other 3%?

I'm with you, mate. Can't be doing with SatNavs, either in a car or (especially) on a bike. They invariably bugger up the looks of the cockpit area on any bike to which they're fitted. More trouble than they're worth, IMHO.

OK Luddite's, what would you prefer in the following scenario (and it did happen to me) :smt002

Late on a Sunday when all gas stations are shut, middle of nowhere in France, pissing down with rain, pitch black and the fuel lights been on for the last 20 miles....

3 button presses later and I'm heading straight for the nearest Intermache 4 miles away followed by a warm and comforting hotel which I had no idea were anywhere close

or

fumble around with your maps in the rain, soaking wet, in the dark and you haven't a clue where you are.....

I rest my case m'lud

Some of us Luddites have the nous to plan and to be able to read a map. :smt002
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

i like them - i can get a very good idea where speed cameras are, i have an idea of the road ahead, and i can get to listen to some music, if i want to.....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

.... and some of us have spent the last 15 yrs developing the things .....
