Surprising fuel consumption!

I've had the bike back on the road for a few weeks now and been enjoying setting up the suspension on some nice twisty bits, just about got it right now.

I've used it to commute a couple of times too very straight and dull.

So at last fill up I clocked the Km's (277) and Litres (18.09, so still 2 liters left?) and did the sums turns out to 6.53 l/Km.

So what! well I thought that too 'coz I've no real perception what that equates to in mpg so I did the conversion and was impressed with the 43.25mpg figure as this included twisty and commute stuff.

What really amazed me was the 277Km turns out to be just over 172 miles. Admittedly the light was on for a long time, but I would never have expected that distance, probably be happy to push 150 (240Km) in the future rather than the 130 I used to.

Mind you I used to get just less than 100 miles to the light when commuting in London.

Edited to add that as soon as I posted this I realised that I mustn't be trying hard enough in the twisty bits to keep the consumption that low

You were very close to pushing her matey. I got 183 miles once and as I just got to the pumps, she died

Yup just checked the specs - 19 litre tank, not the 21 I thought it was so just under a litre left. phew!

One of the reasons I bought the Falco. Not many big bikes get over 40mpg. I get 50mpg on my commute, but I'm crusing down the motorway.

OK so is it just a power Commander that'l give you that kind of consumption?

I would be very happy if i could get 130, but on the daily 12 mile commute from bristol to bath i normally range 110

Im sure theres other stuff on here about fuel consumption but if there is a quick answer to my issue then lets have it...

Type of riding makes a big difference.

On the 80 mile each way motorway commute I was doing, I was often getting 150 miles before the light came on, and there in a little over an hour. On the 20 mile commute I am now doing which involves a fair bit of heavy traffic I'm getting 110 - 120 miles to the tank, and there in 1/2 an hour. When accelerating it drinks fuel faster than at a reasonable spead. At unreasonable spead then it drinks a lot too.
