Falco | Sv1000 to replace 08 Z750

#1 Post by winrow3745 » Wed Apr 21, 2010 7:30 pm

Hello to you all,
I've discovered this forum while researching Falco's and just wanted an opinion on the choice of a replacement for a Z750. The Falco's that i've found so far seem to be a little more expensive than I first wanted to pay but my question's really are:
What should I be looking at paying for an 02/03 Falco?
Are they as reliable as the Suzuki?
Has anybody got a Falco for sale in the North West of England?
Cheers all,
Winrow.

Hi and welcome winrow :smt006

Price is not an easy one - TBH condition is a better guide than age - these bikes go on for ages (plenty of examples with over 100,000 kms on the clock).
They are well built and reliable.
Prices seem to have gone up a bit recently - hence my uncertainty.
Maybe others have their ear closer to the ground on this.

Perhaps a good way to compare the Falco and the SV is to get an independent view (as we're all "sold" on the Falco) .... so here's a link to a review of them (along with a Firestorm and a Ducati)

No surprise to me which is the winner :smt002

welcome winrow, what sort of price are you being asked to pay and what year's.some dealers can want alot of money.private sales are a better buy as alot of care and attention is useually spent on them and alot of mods done like cans, rear shock, tail tidy's and as for reliabilty some owners on here have clocked well over 30,000 mls without a problem. they have a few minor glitches but nothing major. go for a ride on one you'll be hooked. :smt007

Ride both, buy Aprilia. Put simply, it is in another league to the SV. Mind you, we are all here because we made the right decision :smt002

ask jadaris

she has an sv650 and today rode her falco fr the first time.....

when i called her earlier, she just started gushing..... i put the phone down and went off for a coffee etc.....

returned 10 minutes later, she was still raving....

best bike i have ever owned

others are ok bikes, but - not in this league

just ride one for say 30 miles and you will know why

suggest that you do a search through the comics websites - mcn etc - see what they say

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Pete that's very rude, I'm still talking and wondered why I wasn't getting a response.....

But seriously the Falco is just wow compared to the SV, it handles so so much better and feels dreamy, just writing out detailed account of my first experience, will post shortly

Apparently if you own a kwack, or have done, it follows hand in hand. most of the reprobates.. sorry.. falconeers.. on here have had or do own a kwack

..some of us refuse to give in. (even if the prices arebloody cheap for a whole lot of bike)

and contrary to popular belief, i can ride a Mille and touch the floor enough to make it viable.

Falco is quality kit. Mine has covered nearly 50,000 miles and I have no hesitation in recommending one. I think you can still buy a good one between 2 & 3K. Condition and extras are more important than mileage.

:smt020 cant hear youuuuu...

IF you do buy a bog standard Falco, be advised you will need to spend a further.. mmm... 200+ quid to make it work properly.

Sidestand on original UK bikes needs to be changed for an alternative as theyre shit.

The rear shock is also, in standard form, lacking too.

Also consider the bypass mod for the wiring (see other thread recently today)

Other than that, starters sprags can go, they eat batteries if not looked after and they like being serviced regularly. make sure if you do trackdays you set it up properly as big aprilia v twins can eat tyres like they eat Ducatis... regularly.

From my overwatching position, i think that about covers it..

until you start modding it properly....

mod it properly - now who would do that?

(so looking forward to next newark meet.... be interesting to see what newer members think of the older folks modded falcos....)
