Login problems... AGAIN!

#1 Post by Nooj » Tue Apr 13, 2010 11:54 am

Seem that every time I want to log in now I have to request a new password. Any idea why? :smt017

I really dont know! Its all working fine as far as im aware.
Where are you logging in- the front end portal page or on the forum?,
Are you selecting to remember password,
Have you got your computer set to delete cookies, passwords and browsing history?
Are you using upper and /or lowercase letters?
what browser are you using and does this occur on other browsers?
Are you using a laptop or desktop or both and does it occur on both?

I've been getting a strange message, intermittently, at work since they upgraded to IE8, where after putting my login details into the front page I get a pop-up window asking for another username and password. I've no idea what this other set of details is, but I've found clicking on the "log-in" link (rather than using the front-page) has mostly cured this (but not always). No problem at home, but I use Firefox, so don't know if there's an IE8 issue with the forum?

Nooj, you got something similar? Or does Ridersite come back and say unknown details?

After all my grief with Vista ( utter sh*t ) and Firefox ( good, but not with Vista ) I have gone back to XP and Google Chrome.

Everything is tip top now :smt003

That sounds like a restrictions problem at work? I'd speak you your Sys admin if youre on good terms with them see what gives with their restrictions / access. I have stringent ones at my work, i have to login before accessing a site, some civi ones can be the other way, so you can read the news, but before going onto a forum you have to login to the system to confirm you have priveledges, before being allowed in.. if you see what i mean. all depends how they set it up.

I run IE8 (and chrome, firefox, and others) and suffer completely no ills with the site. :smt017

Will try a few variations. Currently using Chrome with Vista Home, it's suddenly started doing it today, not had it happen before.

Getting there. I don't have to request a new password each time now, but I do have to log in each time I get here despite ticking the remember me box. Would that be a cookies thing?

It could very well be.

I'll do a bit of websearching and see what gives with cookie problems and IE and Chrome at the moment, see if there is a trend..

Seems like Chrome can have cookie amnesia and as for IE problems, I'd say try running IE8 and hitting the compatibility button, see if that helps. :smt017

Ill have a dig about the net sometime the next couple of days dig a bit further :smt012

Tried a few times this morning, and the problem appears to have resolved itself (although we have just had a load of MS Updates fired out across the network), might be related, who knows? :smt017

If it ain't broke, I'll try and break it :smt003

Back to normal here as well. Had a stack of windows update to install, so maybe that sorted it out? Odd that it was only doing it yesterday though.

Odd thing - I was sorting out some stuff on my friend's computer today (she knows even less than I do!) and there were a load of Windows updates - now at home on my computer and I haven't had them????

The main reason I went back to XP was that Vista could no longer update, all I got was Windows Update error 80246008. Have a Google and see how crap Vista/Microshite are. Issue an error code and can't give a solution to the problem, most people had to reinstall :smt011

Buy Windows 7 or any other of their rubbish?

Not in this lifetime.

Guess Bill Gates has enough money now and gets idiots to do the donkey work for him. :smt097
