What's your favourite beer ?

#1 Post by Fausto » Fri Feb 23, 2007 6:52 pm

How about 2 categories.........

1 - Bottled or (God forbid) canned - for consumption at home.

2 - Draught - to enjoy in the pub.

I'll start with.....

1 - Adnams- The Bitter. Absolutely superb from a bottle. 4.5 abv

2 - Adnams - Broadside on draught is close to perfection.

OK so I may be biased toward my local brewery. There are lots of truly excellent beers; many of which will be mentioned soon I hope but I am always happy to come home to Suffolk for a Broadside :smt023

1. Spitfire (a fine Kentish ale)

2. Spitfire

If I have to, I make do with John Smiths Smooth

At home its Bishops Finger

If pub, I'll go Speckled Hen or something similar (gone right off Spitfire, its gone all commercial)

I had a very nice pint at lunchtime today, but I've forgotten its name :smt009

1. Strong Suffolk. Only had it after going to the good food show at NEC.
Apparently they only brew it twice a year, what a waste.

2 Theakston's Old Peculiar (suppose it suits me) so some would say.
If I can't get this there are quite a few real ales that will get me through the night.
Abbot, Speclked Hen London pride, Broadside, John Smiths cask, Mansfild cask, Stones etc. etc. etc.
But none of the smooth crap.

At home - Hobgoblin, Old Peculiar, Youngs Old Nick

At the pub - Fullers ESB or London Pride

Adnams!!!

you must have the stomach of an ox - turns me into a pebble dasher! and i think that the bottled stuff you are referring to is the adnams suffolk ale - the normal brew is well under 4%....

(I do like the regatta and explorer though!)

Out of choice - Spitfire, or hobgoblin

Doom Bar.

Wherever!
"The aroma of Doom Bar is an accomplished balance of spicy resinous hop, inviting sweet malt and delicate roasted notes. The mouth feel is perfectly balanced with a complex blend of succulent dried fruit, light roasted malty notes and a subtle yet assertive bitterness. The bitterness remains into the finish with dry fruity notes that implore the drinker to go back for more. "

I've never heard of a beer made with fruit. :smt017

I like a lot of bottled beers but I love draught Wadworth 6X .... the closer it's drunk to Devizes the better .... never had a decent pint of it this far north.

The Bishop's Tipple is excellent too.

While you're all supping, and waiting for Kwackerz to get the next round in here's some half decent pub games.
The away team are crap tho. :smt002
