Balancing Falco Throttle bodies
I've just spent the best part of two hours trying to find a 'how to' on various Aprilia forums and still haven't found anything really usefull. All I've found out is that The Gr33k may have had a split vacuum hose at some point and that nobody uses the same names as anybody else for any of the throttle body components making it impossible to do a useful search and difficult to find out if they're even talking about the same thing in the same post.
Is it all in one place anywhere or have I got to sift through another hundred search results to extract the relevant info?
I need to know:
How to get into 'diag' to set the TPS.
The correct order to adjust the idle speed and the by pass screws.
If it matters what actual value a carbtune will give me.
Whether both bodies need to be perfectly in balance, or if one needs to be pulling slightly more than the other.
How to adjust the bodies.
What the CO2 pots do, whether they even work with a Renegade chip, and if so, what I need to do to them.
Ta.

Workshop manual is your friend for most of this.
For the diag, have you connected the diag wires together near the ECU?
The manual tells you to balance the TBs the same and that's what I've done. Some on AF1 suggest you to set them differently but I'd sooner follow the book.
No such thing as CO2 pots - but the CO pots work.
They set the low engine speed fuel/air ratio.
To set them up properly you need a CO meter to sample the exhaust on each of the headers.
The most important thing with the carbtune is that it balances - not the absolute value.
Best thing is to read the workshop manual.

Diag wires??
Workshop manual?? That sounds familiar actually, will search the hard drive properly, downloaded loads of Aprilia stuff ages ago but don't know where it went.
CO/CO2 pots: See what I mean about people calling things different names? Both have been named in the same posts a number of times on AF1. Confusing. They're the wee trimmer pots in the ECU right? Don't have a CO meter, so not a lot of point me playing with those is there?
I haven't even set foot in the garage to start this yet, no point until I know exactly what I need to do. Need to get the MoT out of the way first and that needs other jobs doing.
Will get there eventually.

Yeah - a lot of people seem to get confused between CO and CO2 ... I blame all this climate change talk that people only have CO2 in their heads. It's the ratio of Carbon monoxide we're needing to measure.Nooj wrote:Diag wires??

The CO pots are the ones on the ECU.
I don't have a CO meter either - I'll either get it checked at the next valve service as I'll probably get that done by Griff - though if I'm feeling flush I may shell out for the Gunson one and make up some adaptors for the headers.
[Yawn]Martin Poll's site for the manual[/Yawn] http://www.martinpoll.dk/div_april.htm
He's got an OCR version which is searchable - much easier to use.
Oh the diag wires .... from the connector to your ecu, you will find 2 wires that each have a connector on the end that are not normally connected. Connect these two together to enter diagnostic mode.

IIRC Ken's site had a very good write up on this. Didn't some one save or adopt his info?
Thought so
Thought so
I found one link that went to the old 'Ken's site' which is of course no longer there, couldn't find any others. I lost a lot of links/files when the old laptop died and have lost track of where stuff's been moved to. Anyway, grazie mille for the pointers.

Yes I did, and read it all twice, and bookmarked it
