Whether Submarines had bloody big portaloos or whether theyhad some form of torpoodo arrangement.
Now i know...
On 14 April 1945, only 8-10 miles off the British coast line, the boat was safely cruising at 200 feet when the commander, Schlitt, decided to use the toilet without the help of a trained specialist (the system was complicated). Something went wrong and when the specialist arrived he misunderstood something and opened the wrong valve with the end results that large amount of seawater got into the boat. The seawater reached the batteries directly under the toilet causing chlorine gas to form and the boat had to be surfaced immediately right under the enemy. When the boat reached the surface they managed to blow clean air into the boat but at the same time an aircraft bombed the boat causing extensive damages leaving the boat unable to dive. Seeing the hopeless situation Schlitt had no choice but to destroy his secret material and abandon ship to safe his crew. (Brennecke, J. (2001). Jager and Gejagte)
What a bloody shitty way to end your War. covered in Schlitt's Shit. I bet the Tour T-Shirt was bloody brilliant though!!
And I wonder whether 'The Specialist' got extra pay. 'Submariner Poo Technician Class One'

U Boat U31
Fate
Sunk on March 11, 1940 in Jadebusen by bombs from British Bristol Blenheim aircraft (RAF Bomber Command). 58 dead (all hands lost).
She was raised in March 1940, repaired and returned to service.
Sunk again on November 2, 1940 NW of Ireland by depth charges from the British destroyer HMS Antelope.
2 dead and 44 survivors
Glutton for punishment, or did they get the numbers round the wrong way? U31 maybe should have been named U13?
I hate submarines. Im so glad I didnt take up the offer for a cabbie on board one once. Sod that.

I used to lodge with a guy who was on the subs. He was 6'2'', but walked with a permanent stoop 'coz the clearance in the boats was so low (suit you Kwak).
I suggested that when he was on shore he could try standing straight up, but he reckoned it took too long to get back into stooping and suffered too may head injuries.
Not too sure he's in the best job really, but given that the average height seems to be increasing is the future of the sub doomed?

Nah .... they'll just adopt the Super Sub .... they've been fairly well proven over the years on the football pitch ........
